How long have you been baking and where did you perfect your recipes?

Sean has baked since he can remember with his Grandma. We perfected our recipes by doing them over and over on our friends and family we someone would have are party we baked!

What inspired you to start Main Street Cupcakes and why did you decide to focus exclusively on cupcakes?

Traveling into New York and hearing about other cupcakes only bakeries got me curious so I started doing research. We wanted to come up with a new business that our market did not have here in Ohio and not in Cleveland something unique but with tremendous potential offering cupcakes only was the way to go, it give us the chance to have tons of variety and we wanted to be owner/operators with this business we can grow.

What was the scene like for cupcakes in your area before you came along?

No scene…grocery store cupcakes!

When did you open, and what are your busiest times of the day and week?

We opened February 2007 on a cold day. Weekdays are pretty steady, and the weekends ROCK!

Is there a typical Main Street Cupcakes customer?

Yes..happy customers that are glad we are here! Our customers are from all ages and all love cupcakes! We have really become a destination, our customers are so happy when they come in and we are happy to have them.

Which flavor is most popular? How long did you work to come up with these flavors?

Wedding day white is very popular and so many others, with the wedding day cupcakes it is the original style almond cake and customers love it. It was one are our first on the opening menu.

How often do you introduce new flavors and how much testing of them do you do?

We are always coming up with new ones we probably come up with one every other week and take a couple weeks to try them out and taste quite a few, if they make the cut we put them out, if not we shelf the idea until we rethink the recipe and move on to the next one..

You serve filled cupcakes such as Chocolate Lava, Vanilla Sundae, and Half Baked, along with your other selections. How much filling is in the cupcakes and are there plans for any other filled cupcakes in the works?

About 1/2 oz to 1 oz of filling and more filling is on the way.

Do you feel that you bring a local spin on the cupcake?

Our shop is in historic Hudson and we try and stay true to the historic feel that the area has. We reversed the spin by bringing this modern trending treat into the historic area!

Do you do special orders and events such as weddings, and if so, how far in advance should someone book you?

Yes, lots of them. General orders 24-48 hours, Weddings or special events at the least 30 days, but as soon as they know earlier is better.

We like to get our clients in for a tasting when it comes to large events, when you have as many flavors as we do, we want them to have the opportunity to pick their favorites.

And now for some personal questions…

How often do you eat cupcakes?

Everyday!

What's the best thing about eating cupcakes?

Variety of flavors, you never have to have the same one, and no waste!

What's your favorite type of cupcake?

Sean's is Vanilla Chai and mine’s Kimberly Red Velvet.

How do cupcakes compare/contrast to other baked goods for you?

For us nothing is better than fresh cupcakes with buttercream frosting.

Is there any innovation you'd like to see made to the cupcake that would improve it for you?

No, they are perfect just the way they are, they are a timeless dessert.

Do you bake your own cupcakes? Or (even better) have someone who bakes them for you?

We bake our own. My sweet husband bakes every last one.

What's the most fun you've ever had with a cupcake?

Trying out are first Red Velvet recipe for a dinner party with friends and enjoying them and the cupcakes so much that night that it became a conversation piece, especially since some of them had never had red velvet before.

We went to her bakery this weekend. I have to say that the texture of her cupcakes is spongy and moist. One of the best I have ever had. I wish I knew how to duplicate this. We tried to do it by making a genoise cupcake, but that was TOO spongy. If anyone knows, email me, please!
