Wedding cupcakes "runneth over"

From New Jersey's The Star Ledger, "Cupcakes Runneth Over"

When Anne Heap's first bride spurned tradition and asked for wedding-day cupcakes almost two years ago, the baker thought the idea was absurd. But then Heap, who owns Pink Cake Box in Denville, made the cupcakes and posted the photo on her website. The inspiration caught on like wildfire, she says.

Today her wedding cupcakes are dressed in Swarovski crystals, sugar roses and even feathers.

At Meema's in Montclair, the story is the same. Brides want elegant cupcakes -- white on white, perhaps decorated with a simple white bow or topped with a gold monogram of the newlywed couple's initials. And don't make the mistake of thinking that these cupcake wedding confections are quickie afterthoughts for a Vegas-style elopement. Many of the cupcake tiers are just as elaborate (and pricey) as a traditional wedding cake; indeed, Meema's wedding cupcakes have starred at a reception at the Rainbow Room.

Weddings, bachelor parties, baby showers, sweet 16 parties, engagement parties -- the cupcake clearly has broken its buttercream ceiling.
