Greenwich Time article on Hello, Cupcake! and recipe

There's a great article in Greenwich Time on Hello, Cupcake! co-author Karen Tack and for those clamoring for recipes, there's their recipe for spaghetti and meatball cupcakes. As you can see above, if you make the recipes from their book, you just may get them featured on their blog.

And again, you can meet Karen and co-author Alan Richardson tonight for FREE CUPCAKES! We urge all New Yorkers to join our NYC Cupcake Meetup Group to find out the latest on what we're cooking up, which includes the May 8th Cupcake Social 2.0 at The Delancey and summertime cupcake picnics. Thanks to the 114 of you who've already RSVPed! (And again, our apologies to all who are celebrating Passover and will not be able to join us.) There will be a cupcake bar and you'll get cupcake decorating tips direct from the authors!

Tonight at:

M&M's Store
1600 Broadway (at 48th Street)
New York, NY 10019
To get there take N/R/1/2/3/A/C/7 to Times Square

One of Tack's favorite tools is a Ziploc bag for piping frosting.

"And don't get me wrong, because I love pastry tips, but not everybody has that. And we figured out a quick way of using some Scotch tape and your Ziploc bag and a pair of scissors to make a quick star tip version."

Her other favorite tool is the offset spatula for spreading frosting. "And this is must. People you could use a butter knife or spoon, but it's not the same. A dollar or two dollars to get one is a good investment."

After making a few of the creations in "Hello, Cupcake!" "you go out and you start looking at chow mein noodles differently and you get more creative with what you can find," Tack says. "It's taking those candies and taking it to the next step and cutting them or rolling them out. Or just reshaping them and thinking outside of the box."

"We want to get people started and take their own approach to making these cupcakes," Richardson says. "Nothing is difficult if you look at it closely."

Hi all: I wanted to let you know the picture you posted for this article is actually a project done by my wife, Chef Cheryl from Disco Cupcakes. I'm glad it was good enough to fool everyone into thinking it was done by Karen Tack!

Cheryl has been replicating projects from the book and speaking with Karen and Alan about her experiences as an end user in the real world. She has turned into a Cupcake Monster!

To see more of her work including other projects from the book, check out her blog: http://discocupcakes.blogspot.com/
