Kickass Cupcakes: "Cupcakes unlike mom used to make"

The Boston Herald has a short writeup about Kickass Cupcakes:

Boston’s burgeoning cupcake market has a new competitor with the opening of Kickass Cupcakes in Davis Square, Somerville. Pastry chef and owner Sara Ross, who relocated from the West Coast, breaks all cupcake barriers in her sunny bakery.

Ross’ flavor combinations start with classic chocolate and vanilla, and then things get a little crazy - in a good way. A mojito cupcake is soaked in rum and finished with sugar cane lime frosting. The “cinnamon chai pecan sticky” boasts a spice-cake foundation and caramel pecan topping. And the strawberry shortcake is filled with a dollop of strawberry jam and frosted with pink whipped cream.

I finally got to try Kickass Cupcakes this past weekend. I was EXTREMELY disappointed and so sad! I had such high hopes for them but unfortunately, they were worse than day old bake sale!

I tried three flavors: vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and the flavor of the day, s'more, with graham cracker cake, chocolate frosting, and a toasted marshmallow on top. All were dry, with hardly any flavor.

Needless to say, I suggest you don't waste your time or your money ($2.75 for a lopsided, tiny cupcake!!!) at Kickass.

Sorry!
