I will write up my Day 6 and 7 Cupcake a Day when I get home, am at
SFO waiting to fly back to New York. It was a whirlwind but I got to
try a new bakery, Baked (http://www.bakedsf.com), in Potrero Hill. We
were heading to a dinner party. And in a taxi so I called ahead and
they told me which flavors they had. I asked for two of each to make a
dozen, but added the giant gingerbread one when I saw it upon
entering. They were $2 each and $4 for the gingerbread.
We tasted a few and all had mousse-like frosting, some with chocolate
shavings. There was a mocha one that I was supposed to split with my
boyfriend but he ate the whole thing. I snagged a tiny bit of frosting
and it goes with my opinion if the gingerbread: for serious fans only.
The gingerbread was way too intense for me but the other guests
gobbled it right up. Which is another reason cupcakes make such
perfect party foods: they're great for sharing and it's highly
unlikely that they'll go uneaten!

If the Mocha cupcake is like the one you get in their Red Hook shop (which I am sure it is) then your boyfriend did the right thing. That is the absolute best cupcake I have ever had.
I'm pretty sure that the only thing the Baked here in Portrero Hill shares with the Baked in Red Hook is the name.
I'm a faithful blog reader, and saw this today and thought of Cupcakes Take The Cake... http://www.amazon.com/Yellow-Diamond-Cupcake-Pendant-Clarity/dp/B000O1JE98/ref=xs_gb_A1V1KYQI5U6SLL?_encoding=UTF8&pfRdReplace=1
Ahhh Gingerbread. Way too intense for me too. There is just something about the taste.
