Tonight a friend and I went to the soft/grand opening of Little Cupcake Bakeshop, at 30 Prince Street (at Mott) in SoHo. The new shop is a bit larger than the Bay Ridge store -- I think it seats up to 24 people.

Oddly, this sign was down the street a way, no signage yet that I could find.

But it's obvious it's a sweets shop/bakery, it smells delicious!

Nose-magnet. Mm, chocolate!

The store was filled with happy cupcake-decorators, and, oddly (I think) a framed portrait of (early-90s era) Wayne Gretzky. (Not sure about that, will update if further info because available.)
Cupcakes looked tasty, smelled sugary, and were all very brightly colored.

Co-owner Luigi LoBuglio gifted us with some delicious-scented cupcakes.

It pains me to have to admit this but I couldn't eat too much as my sore belly wasn't up to cupcaking. So sad when that happens, but it's just been one of those days. Luckily, I had a dessert professional or two with me who were more than happy to sample and report back.
Here's one of the guest taster about to enjoy a pink (possibly strawberry) cupcake.

And a second friend about to taste the chocolate-chocolate.

The reports from my two tasters: Cupcakes were very sweet with a high frosting to cake ratio, and were traditional bakery-style cupcakes. Which makes sense as the store's motto is "traditional American desserts." Sweet and tasty and pretty. Perfectly cooked (liner melted away from the cupcake), with oodles of buttercream piled on top. Great for kids.
What I took away was how happy the workers were, how lovely the cafe and bakery were (immaculate), and how much fun it'd be to people-watch with a cupcake and cup of coffee on a lazy afternoon.
And best moment of the evening (for me): Meeting little Alyssa, a walking advertisement for the cupcakery. Yay! I think I sort of overheard that her dad was the shop's designer (forgive me if I got that wrong). So adorable!
