Today's spotlight is on Flickr user gabby_cupcakes. I have to admit, when I first saw some of hre photos, I wondered if these were toy cupcakes or real ones (they're real), because there's something so playful and colorful about them they almost look fake. I swear, that's a compliment.

these are very cute! ashley, i hear ya-- fondant is awesome to work with, people keep requesting it! i imagine there's a nice layer of frosting underneath those fondant cupcakes as well!

That's true with the fondant--how it's kinda gross-like sugary play dough. I made fondant covered ones that I really loved for Easter a year ago. There was a thin layer of icing under the fondant, but nobody wanted to eat them--I was pretty upset. Now I do mostly fully iced cupcakes with small fondant elements on like a garnish and then make a few of the all fondant covered ones as "show pieces". I LOVE making and looking at them, but they're more sculpture that really---edible.
The whole thing made me question why people always want fondant covered wedding cakes--that must not be so great either!...but it's gorgeous, and most people don't know the taste of fondant before that cake.
--but u can ALWAYS make extra fully iced ones and-in most crowds-SOMEONE will eat a fondant one and like it....tho the person who does that for me is always my mom-doesn't bode well.

UR STUFF IS AMAZING tho-Gabby!! I'd LOVE to have them made for me!! :)

i have to say, i do my own fondant couse as you know the fondant that are for sale doesnt taste very good, so i made my own and added many flavors as almond, orange, etc... if you want a recipe to do your own fondant contact me :)

Ladies, I got a Xmas cake and some Xmas cupcakes from Gaby. You can not belive how delicious and fresh the cakes and the fondat itself was, even the next day.
She is a great cook.

OMG.... I love these cupcakes! The sushi one sure is amazing! I never would have thought of that. And the ones from the woman in Monterrey, Mexico are so amazing for playful wedding!
