Cupcake Wars new season debuts tomorrow, June 14 on Food Network

Tomorrow night Cupcake Wars is back! Here's the official Cupcake Wars page, and cupcake bakers who will appear on Tuesday's premiere are getting some press.

From the Gwinnette Daily Post, Tara Tomlinson and her husband Brad of Sugar Kneads Cakery will compete:

“We planned and timed and tested and tasted in hopes that we wouldn’t be one of those stupid people.”

Tomlinson said the experience was different than what she expected.

“I thought, ‘I got this knocked,’” she said. “But it was way more stressful than I anticipated, but it’s an experience that I wouldn’t ever take back.”

In “Cupcake Wars,” four bakers face off in three elimination challenges until only one decorator remains. In the first round, cupcakes are judged for taste, and in the second, taste and presentation. In the final found, the final two bakers battle to create a themed display of 1,000 cupcakes.

The prize for winning is $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their cupcakes at the episode’s winning gig.

Tomlinson, who took her husband with her as her baking partner, said she can’t reveal the results of the show because of a lengthy confidentiality agreement she signed. The couple didn’t even tell their three girls they would be on the show until producers gave them the OK earlier this week to spread the word about their appearance.

The Herald-Leader reports that James Brown of Brown's Bakery made mint julep cupcakes:

Earlier this year, Lexington baker James Brown received a call from Justin Willman, host of Food Network's Cupcake Wars, asking whether Brown wanted to participate in the popular competition.

After he realized that it wasn't a prank call, Brown agreed to send an audition tape. But Brown didn't know much about making a video, so he turned to his Facebook fans for help. A friend responded and made the tape, and Brown was chosen to be one of the four bakers to face off in three elimination challenges, with a prize of $10,000.

Brown and his assistant, Leighann Mogenhan, flew to Los Angeles for the show in March. Brown is not allowed to talk about the outcome, but you can see how his cupcake finished when the show airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Food Network...

Brown's Bakery is at 1226 Versailles Road, close to The Red Mile Road. He opened the bakery in Meadowthorpe in 2006 and moved to a new location earlier this year. Call (859) 225-8400.

According to USA Weekend:

“All the fresh ingredients that are still usable are kept for the next challenge, while the completed cupcakes left over are delivered to nearby charitable organizations,or given to our hardworking cast and crew,” a Food Network and Cooking Channel rep tells us. “The set is a great place to work—especially if you have a sweet tooth.”
