How often do you eat cupcakes?
As often as possible, but I don’t see them around in SF as much as in NYC, so it may only be a paltry once each month.
What's the best thing about eating cupcakes?
Mmmm. Where to start? That delicious, excited feeling of having a whole cake all to yourself, even if it is only 2 inches across.
What's your favorite type of cupcake?
Vanilla cake, chocolate frosting, with lots and lots of sprinkles
How do cupcakes compare/contrast to other baked goods for you?
That’s like choosing your favorite sibling! But the thing about a cupcake is I can experiment with it — for some reason getting a slice of cake is a commitment, and can be a disappointment. No matter how stale a cupcake is, it’s usually yummy.
Is there any innovation you'd like to see made to the cupcake that would improve it for you?
A cupcake carrier! When I bake cupcakes, they always get smooshed in a box or on a plate. There must be something like a beer six-pack carrier, but made for cupcakes to keep them pristine.
Do you bake your own cupcakes? Or (even better) have someone who bakes them for you?
I haven’t baked my own for almost a year – but I was particularly proud of those — chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing, and silver leaf on top, baked in red cupcake wrappers. Now I get to enjoy cupcakes baked every once in a while by my talented business partner Julie Tucker, or my sister Monica. Or I purchase.
What's your first cupcake-related memory?
Second grade birthday at P.S. 158 in New York City. I got to bring in a whole bunch of cupcakes for my class and I felt like that was the pinnacle — to be able to provide so much yum for all my friends.
What's the most fun you've ever had with a cupcake?
Eating a cupcake with someone under the age of 6 is kind of an amazing experience, even if it is hard to restrain my self from helping them through it.
Any other thoughts on the topic?
I’m sort of obsessed with photos of cupcakes. I can gaze at them lovingly for quite awhile, and I love getting emails with pictures of them.
