I share those sentiments! I live in Perth, Western Australia, and would love to have a cupcake business one day...I think when I finish university at the end of the year, I'm going to head into cake decorating. Hopefully i can incorporate that!

hi all you cupcake lovers. I was recently in sydney on a buisness trip and came across a cupcake shop, I was so excited they looked and tasted amazing so if your ever in sydney check it out. 323 Pitt street ( Cupcakes on Pitt )
Anonymous said…
Does anyone know how much the cupcakes are at Cupcakes on Pitt?
Anonymous said…
Cupcakes on Pitt currently sell their Cupcakes for $3.50 each. Or you can have them for $5 with a cup of coffee. They are a little pricey but worth it for a treat every now and then!
Anonymous said…
There is an amazing big cupcake painting in Cupcakes on Pitt in Sydney. It is very Pop Art, think Andy Warhol. All these beautiful colours and thick impasto icing. Could have almost eaten it! Worth a look!
Anonymous said…
LURRRRRVe the cupcakes on Pitt (Pitt Street Sydney) they are so yummy! They have standard flavours (Strawberry, orange jaffa, white choc, tiramisu etc) and then a special - which I think changes daily - hmm to die for!
Anonymous said…
I found a fabo site - mylittlecupcake.com.au based in Sydney..I came across them @ the Easter show this year and they are the best outside of New York. I think they are opening a store in Neutral Bay - they also deliver anywhere in Sydney. so check them out !
Anonymous said…
OMG - thanks for the referral...I checked out Pitt Street - Okay ..Then checked out mylittlecupcake.com.au they are situated in Neutral Bay, the shop is open ...and they blew me away - they are tasty and the colours are to die for....they are so damn cute ... I'm using them for my next birthday celebration !!!

Hi,I live in australia in Clovelly (near Randwick) NSW. I must go to Pitt Street as I haven't seen any decent cupcakes anywhere.(apart from the usual, as in sweetart & a few wedding cake makers). There's a cupcake princess but I'm not impressed at all. I do them for friends & am just about to do butterfly cupcakes for a wedding company.I'm a perfectionist but must say it's alot of work to get them looking really good!
Anonymous said…
Where exactly is it on Pitt St? I tried finding it yesterday but ended up lost!
Anonymous said…
I have to agree. Mylittlecupcake.com.au in Neutral Bay is the best looking store and the cupcakes are simply beautiful. Both the cake and the icing are done by hand, finished up with a selection of gorgoeus flowers and leaves. I saw their product at a girlfriends wedding at Christmas, and I was blown away. The attention to detail and the overall display was breathtaking. Sweetart are so damn expensive...and CC on Pitt dont do wedding cakes. My daughters first birthday in April will be done by mylittlecupcake - they are so cute ....happy shopping !

Wow, how amazing is Cupcakes on Pitt?!?! Love the cupcakes so much.I'm ashamed to admit i bought a box of 6 for me and my room mate......and we ate all of them in one night!! Haven't been to the one at Neutral Bay yet but looked online. It doesn't look anywhere near as striking as the one on Pitt Street but i'll see when i go; my impression might change! Lot to live up to though!

Can anyone tell me who supplies the cupcakes for the coffee shop "Chocolat" in Bondi Junction (Spring St). These mini sensations have to be the best tasting I have come across and want these for my wedding..

All help would be appreciated

Gorgeous cupcakes I saw at a school fete in Sydney were from Le Cupcake, email lecupcake@iprimus.com.au. They were amazing! Kids ones & shabby chic & boxed!!
Anonymous said…
How can anyone say "the best in Sydney" unless they've seen them all!!!!I've seen cupcake princess at fox studios & I checked "www.perama.com.au/cupcakes" & "my little cupcake" & yeah cute but nowhere near as amazing as the ones I saw from "le cupcake". These had edible butterflies, roses, spiders, chocolate with red hearts etc .They were gorgeous!!!!!!Nothing I've ever seen before!
Anonymous said…
I too have tried Cupcakes on Pitt and My Little cupcake. These are my opinions- The Pitt st ones were too dry and the icing tasted like sweet margarine, My little cupcake, although out of the way, the cakes look gorgeous, but they taste like the cheap cakes you buy from woolworths. I have been to Katoomba recently and have discovered Cupids cupcakes- these are BETTEr than both mentioned, as the cakes are made of white and chocolate mud cake and the coloured icing is flavoured, so they are more original and the icing tastes sooo much better. The guy there tells me he has had customers say they are better than Magnolia's Bakery cupcakes in NY. By the way this website is awesome, and I too a inspired and have started researching the perfect cupcake!!
Anonymous said…
What's the website for cupids cupcakes? I was in the blue mountains recently & almost stopped at Katoomba as I'd thought there was something there. Now I'm annoyed I didn't!!
Anonymous said…
Cupids Cupcakes are made by Michelle & Philip and they are located on the main drag in Katoomba, at 32 Katoomba st. Their phone num is (02) 47821244. I don't think they have a website, I couldn't find one. I found this bit of info on another website that reviews food...

'What does West Village New York and Katoomba Blue Mountains have in common?

They both have cup cake stores yet the difference, according to New York visitors is: Katoomba’s cakes are tastier!!

Many tourists are already spreading the word and according to Philip they think Michelle’s special recipe is one worth tasting. It’s so good they have even come back for more.

Magnolia Bakery in New York eat your cupcakes and move over….. as Cupid’s Cup cakes of Katoomba are taking on the Southern Hemisphere.

Check them out by taking a visit to the Blue Mountains and have a look at the Come Up for Air Trail'.

Cheers, Chloe P.

I haven't been there but was told recently they weren't anything special...I suppose it depends on who you talk to. I saw the flickr site of Le Cupcake though & they are gorgeous!!! I haven't seen anything like those ones. She's amazing! I wonder what they taste like? I must find out!
Anonymous said…
The person who said The Cupcake Princesses are the best in Sydney.....Have they actually seen them?? I doubt it! That's a big insult to other cupcake places I think!
Anonymous said…
Does anyone know a place to buy c'cakes in Brisbane? My daughter is turning 2 this month and the party theme is cupcakes. I'll be making some myself but mine will never look as good the pro's!
Anonymous said…
I saw le cupcake's blogspot (www.lecupcake.blogspot.com) & wow!! i didn't think you could get cupcakes like those anywhere! I'm going to contact them & put an order in! Just gorgeous!
Anonymous said…
This is for those people who say the cupcakes from the cupcake princess arent any good, you really should be ashamed!!

Firstly My Little Cupcake say they make there own cupcakes but they dont, they have a bakery in the North West that bakes them for them..Secondly Cupcakes on Pitt, have you acutally seen the flour, eggs, butter etc in there kitchen where they make them...mmmm that would be a no because they used a pre mix which all they have to do is add water... As for the Princess, you can actually taste the butter in both the icing and the cake.
I eat a cupcake a day sometimes I eat a couple therefore I know whats good and whats not. I get them through the week at Paddington in a fantastic shop, think its called Paddington Fresh... It's Donna Hay's husbands shop then on the weekend I head to fox studio's.
If you really love cupcakes head to these two places but if you go to fox make sure you get them from the Princess as there is some old ladies trying to cash in on the Princess...(maybe you had one of those) If your not sure ask if they are from the princess and if they say no....RUN!!!!!!
If your still not 100% on the cupcakes from the princess heres something for you all to think of...

Why would they be selling out at Pink Salt every week???

Why would Kyle and Jackie O love them so much and talk about them on the radio along with ordering them for there birthdays???

And lastly why would they have such a following at Paddington..

Maybe you should get down there and have another try, who knows you may have bought the wrong ones...

i have often been at fox studios and seen cupcakes by the cupcake princess.Whilst being mesmerized by these delightful little morsals have heard so many obviously repeat customers raving about them ...saying its the taste...so fresh so very yummy..i have now tasted these taste sensations much to the demise of my waistline and can only say these are the best..the decorations at the markets are to draw the little ones but the adults like me love them too..you should see the faces of young and old alike....pure contentment..go girl/princess whatever you you are doing don't change a thing..merry christmas to all..and ccp is doing chrissie decorations that are out of this place and so cute..i have ordered heaps for people dropping over and on christmas sat as individual gift treatsxx
Anonymous said…
Got to disagree ... the cupcakes made by the 'old ladies' at Fox are sensational! Definitely run ... but run TOWARDS them not away from them! The passionfruit, in particular, is sublime.

Wow...not really sure what to say but the facts... I am getting married next year and found these comments very interesting... I contacted the people mentioned here in Sydney..like.. My Little Cupcake, Cupcake on Pitt, Le Cupcake and The Cupcake Princess...
I have to say I found something very unpleasant about Le Cupcake...she bitched non stop about The Cupcake Princess and My Little Cupcake.. I mean really is that called for???
I went to see these people during the week and went out to the markets at Fox Studios. I found everyone very helpful at all the places I went and found the Princess to be the most helpful. I have a budget and she worked with me, noone else seemed to bothered asking me what that was. Noone also bothered to ask what I wanted. The Cupcake Princess was wonderful, she had contacts for me to help me with the wedding.
I have to say and agree with everyone, she is the best.. I also read the article in a mag abuot her... it said something along the lines of being the sweetest treats and sweetest ladies...they sure did get that right..

Cupcake Princess, keep it up..your cupcakes are fantastic and even though you have a childrens range at the markets I have every bit of trust in you that my wedding cake will be the most wonderful cake ever.

You are the best and congratulations for being such a wonderful understand person

A friend put me onto the comments on this blog as I was trying to find it as I was expecting something like this! I must apologise. I didn't bitch non stop but I did say some things I shouldn't have & apologise . Being new to all of this I hadn't prepared for the questions I was asked. I'd given her the prices over the phone (she said she didn't have an email to send the price list to) & straight away she fired off (very matter-of-factly) questions after asking why mine were so expensive like "what makes yours better than the rest" "why are yours so expensive - what makes them better than the others" "what makes the others not as good as yours"etc, etc. They aren't questions I thought I'd be asked. I was caught on the spot & the way she asked the questions after saying mine were expensive was off putting! I even thought that she may have been a friend of one of the other places & ringing for info.(no excuse though). What I should have said was you pay for the detailed work & ingredients on /in them, & to make the comparison yourself. As for comments about MLC I said my cupcakes are dearer because my decorations are more detailed & hand made, & my cupcakes use deluxe recipes which are dearer to make than cupcake recipes etc. I told her to see the princesses place's cupcakes first as I thought she might be expecting something different due to the fact she advertises herself as having been voted the best cupcakes in sydney, & to be careful due to something I'd been told the week before. I shouldn't said what I said & I did say that to her that I shouldn't have said it (& said I'm sorry) etc & I did cringe afterwards. But I felt I'd been baited in a way & thought maybe she was a friend of one of the places & that's why she'd asked those questions. That's no excuse though & I've learnt my first lesson with this! With not being helpful, I told her my blogspot to view, offered to send out a price list etc, told her I can do them to suit theme/style of the wedding, & would have happily worked with a budget etc, but normally the people view prices/photos & then discuss all of that. That would have been the next step- we didn't get that far. Maybe I did turn her off but I was smelling a rat - rightly or wrongly -& felt it was all wrong (probably my fault). So I apologise & my mouth remains permanently shut from now on in regards to answering questions like those. There are some great cupcake places out there...they are all different & offer different things depending on what the person wants.

The ladies at fox do make nice tasting cupcakes as does the cupcake princess.......however the princesses icing tastes like the vanilla tub icing from the supermarket but that could be my tastebuds playing up??.
Anonymous said…
hey love the site, mmm cupcakes are divine!

good on Le Cupcake for making a stand agains someone who seemed to come across quite rudely! i mean who asks those sorts of quesitons in that sort of manner?? crazy woman.

i think you should let your taste buds be the judge of the best cup cake, if it's your wedding cake why not just get the best tasting one. how to get the best tasting?

GO TASTE THEM!
cheers

Hi, I don't know why Le Cupcake was told hers were more expensive because they are actually cheaper than My Little Cupcake! Unless I'm reading their pricelist wrong. For their tiered cupcakes My Little Cupcake are alot dearer even though they are very basic. I don't know what the Cupcake Princess charges but I hope the caller wasn't being naive enough to compare the prices of her cupcakes to the very decorated ones by Le Cupcake. I think anyone can see the big difference there. No wonder Le Cupcake got upset. I would be too! it's like going into Cue & expecting to pay Supre prices!

How about posting your wedding cake pics from The Cupcake Princess, anonymous. Gee there are alot of anonymous's on here aren't there. At least Le Cupcake didn't hide behind "anonymous". If your not cupcake businesses promoting yourselves then why comment as anonymous?
Anonymous said…
Hi everyone,

I have never been to this site before but I thought I would put my two cents in.

I have just had a birthday for my two children and we went all out.... as you do! I had The Iced Princess do my cupcakes and they were the talk of the party. She was delightful and warm and presented the cakes just as I wanted them. She wasn't very expensive either so if you want to try her I recommend her any day.
Anonymous said…
I am sorry but I share the sentiments of the person who said Le Cupcake was bitter. She may be talented but will always knock everyone else and hardly ever says a nice word. Why do we need to be like that, why can't we all support each other and be a team. You only make yourself look back when you are negative about others not the other way around. Perhaps you should think about that. You can't say it was a once off you do it all the time le cupcake
Anonymous said…
I think they are all great and good on you all. There is a new place just opened up in Paddinton called Cupcake Bakery, very expensive with plain design not sure how they taste but I am sure I will try one soon. Good luck to you all
Anonymous said…
OK, now I AM getting annoyed!!!!!!Hey anonymous...OR should I say ICED PRINCESS....how dare you come on here hiding behind "anonymous" & slander me!! Just TELL everyone WHO else I've knocked !!!! Because apart from what I explained before, you wont be able to come up with ANYTHING! I'm really getting p... off now! How DARE you come on here & say these things! It's quite a coi-incidence isn't it that someone (anonymous) comments on your business - & then the next comment (anonymous AGAIN) slanders me! I'm not stupid! Neither are others!
You obviously took offence to me replying to peoples questions on how to do your flowers on flickr! If people on flickr ask questions on a public posting, they're there to be answered. I answer alot of enquiries, so if you don't want people to ask how you do your flowers then don't join flickr! And then you wont get caught out like you did...I suspect that's the real reason you're upset! I was also nice about you using my designs....most people wouldn't be so understanding & I received a few emails on that subject!
Tell me who I slander ALL THE TIME?? !! Have some integrity & come on here AS yourself & stop lieing!
I know I haven't slandered anyone else! Ask my last clients who talked about other places & ask them what I said!
Ask the flickr people if I'm nasty & slander others!! I think people will find out who's really being nasty!
This is ridiculous...you've come across this & used it to put me down! Well I know the truth & that's ALL that matters!
Anonymous said…
Sorry if I come across abit nutty on the last comment but I'm really upset!!
Anonymous said…
Sorry.......I'm really digging myself deeper & deeper into a hole & must come across as a total ........! I've apologised to the Iced Princess as she assures me it isn't her. However SOMEONE is stirring the pot & it can only be one of two people - so to whoever it is....I'm not taking anymore notice - so lie all you like as it wont affect me anymore. I'm not coming on here again as I know who's telling the truth - & again...that's all that matters! I haven't got time for this nonsense!
Anonymous said…
P.s. Thanks Alison for your support but I don't think its helping me. Maybe just let it be.....
Anonymous said…
Oh dear. So many anonymous's! I suppose I'll be silly and sign on as one too! I feel sorry for Le Cupcake. There's obviously foul play going on here! All over cupcakes! Gee, get a life people!

Hi,

It is interesting reading all these comments. We are wanting to do a Cupcake Tower for our wedding, and had an appointment with Palm Beach Cupcakes in Artarmon today. We got there on time only to be told "oh, we're selling the business" (so I guess it was the owner). She was definitely surprised to see us there, despite us only having made the appointment 2 weeks ago. It would have been nice to get a phone call so we didn't waste our Saturday morning. Very unprofessional if you ask me.

So, to anyone out there, don't bother looking for Palm Beach Cupcakes because they are out of business (the owners were removing the signs while we were there).

That said, I am a bit worried about the comments in this blog. It does not look very professional at all, especially to someone looking for a Wedding Cupcake Tower. What are we supposed to think?

So, if you get a call from me in the next few days, please don't tell me anything about your competitors. I am not interested in negative comments. Just tell me what you can do for us, and we will judge you on your product and your professionalism. This is how you get great references, not by putting down your competition.

Paul

Hi Paul,
Don't be diheartened as we all go into business with the best intentions. I just found out about this site today after a client told me she left a comment. I think it is just that everyone is very passionate about there work and that is a good thing otherwise we would be getting dud cakes. I like everyone else mentioned above, I'm sure, would love to help you out with your wedding.
I'm Cakesand... (and this is a shocking plug but hey isn't that what the internet is all about!!??)
Keep baking everyone as there are more than enough cupcake lovers out there and one of us can't do the lot ,can we??

Why all the hiding of names? Do people have something to hide? I think they are all businesses promoting themselves! Shame on them! I think it's only fair if you are going to criticise someone then show your name & don't be a coward! At least cakes and... & lecupcake aren't ashamed to be honest (even if it does make one look bad). Honesty is the best policy! Good on them!
If you want cupcakes then go onto their websites for gods sake & stop comparing them on nothing but bitchiness!!! Compare them on their cupcakes!! Easy!!
Anonymous said…
tnI too agree with the above.. Its really sad that we all create such wonderful cakes that bring happiness into our lives yet people on here slag eachother.. Doesn't make Australians look as friendly as we really are to the rest of the world.. My mother told me about this page and when I read all the comments I was shocked. As she said there is enough business out there for all.

Isn't it time we get out of the school yard and start acting like business women??

I hope everyone that has a cupcake business in Sydney all the very best after all we all make different types and everyone has different taste so lets stop this school yard stupidity.

Have a great weekend : )

Hi folks, I am a random person looking up some info on how much interest there is in cupcakes (with the thought of starting a cupcake business in a city- NOT SYDNEY!). I have never written on a blog but I have been sitting here laughing incredulously at the comments the business owners have all posted to each other. I couldn't resist adding a comment as an outsider. You must realise how silly you all look? I know how incredibly difficult it is to start your own business so why sabotage yourselves by bitching about the competition? Why not take on board the comments and improve the way you operate, rather than becoming defensive? They are not speaking about you personally. There are millions of people living in Sydney, just enjoy your own customers. Life is too short to worry about what others think. Move forward with the feedback to improve your product and be the bigger person! Best of luck to you all- I can't wait to visit Sydney soon to try all your wares!

Hi Christy... I know what you mean about being sooooo funny, I look at this page and another (http://www.flickr.com/groups/gorgeouscupcakes/discuss/72157594552172756/) and have a great laugh at the topic..talk about beign bithing!!! Where abouts are you opening?? would love to come and try some of your cakes, I'm sure they taste great. I am thinking of opening a cupcake business too..but not in Sydney..can you imagine what would happen...would hate to imagine..

I hope your business is a booming one!

What does beign bithing mean? Being bitching?? I thought they were just discussing topics on that group...obviously abit of drama but isn't that what forums are for? Discussions??

Christy, don't know where you are but my mother lives in the Mtns and says that Cupids Cupcakes in Katoomba is for sale if that is of any interest. Cheers

Hi Christy

I'm in Newcastle, NSW. Not really sure if it would work up here but hey you never know. It's interesting to read that there are now 2 cupcake places up for sale..wonder if the fads almost over for Sydney??? Think its been going on for sometime from reading everyones comments. I guess time will tell.

Don't give up, I'm sure you will go well..

Anonymous, who was asking about bitching... I agree with you about bloggs and forums they should be for discussions however when you put down another business when you yourself are in a business the same looks pretty bad. I mean come on to keep venting about it over and over again, sure it may upset you but for goodness sake get over it. Sit back and think I must be doing something pretty good for people wanting to be like me.

Oh well I guess we all dont think the same, its just sad to read that these people aren't being so nice even to people in another country let alone in the same city.
Anonymous said…
Thanks for the heads up Cakesand; but I'm in Perth. Are you in Sydney?
Anonymous said…
Wow......cupcakes must be good at the moment to cause all this fuss!
Anonymous said…
Hi Maria I'd love cupcakes in Newcastle. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Merewether & would love to help. Maybe some part time work? If you do decide to start one up.

Hi Janine,
Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply as from what I can see on this site, people come on & criticise everyone - & a couple of people coincidently at once - but then they are never seen nor heard of again!! Or it's weeks before another reply! Strange.....It's always all at a time...then you don't here from them again for weeks! Does that not reek of the same people...stuff these anonymous's!
You Australians are funny people! You say you're nice but then all of this is very strange! I went onto the link that Maria gave and didn't see anything in particular - certainly anything funny as she mentioned....except the same people!!

Maria you say "who asked about bitching?"...I think YOU said "talk about beign bithing" is what anonymous meant (just answering your question) so I don't understand why you asked "anonymous" "who was asking about bitching"!

I hate to say it Maria but for someone who has come on here & then told everyone about the link you did....how do you know they are businesses - as you said "when you put down another business when you yourself are in the same business looks pretty bad"..... looks like something strange going on here!

Who are you Maria?? Another cupcake business in Australia I presume! One to bag who is on here already?? Mustn't be doing well hay?? (another Australian expression).

If you go on here, then on that link it's the same few people...yet this is an American site!! Go figure!
Cupcakes must be gold in Australia as there's definately something going on down there!

I think all is not what it seems.........

Wow! I'm from NY and haven't seen anything even remotely like the cakes by Le Cupcake here, & we're suppose to have good ones! I don't think it matters who says what as just look at them to see what you want. I'm absolutley stunned by the creations Le Cupcake has done & If it were me I would be going straight to the top!

What can I say? All this bitchiness means nothing! I can't say anything but go to the artist!!!! kylie Lambert!! She is amazing!
I found her on flickr...go to flickr...flickr.com/photos/lecupcake or her blogspot..lecupcake.blogspot.com & see some cupcakes that you haven't seen before! I mean this woman is amazing! She is on so many websites, web blogs, magazines, people overseas are copying her left, right & centre!!! That says how good she is!! She is seriously an innovator for cupcakes! Forget weddings! This woman is creating history!

P.S...I'll be anonymous just to keep the trend going!!

My sister has just started a cupcake making hobby turned business from home after doing cupcakes for my friends wedding and a number of other people's bday parties, etc, after they tried them at the wedding...she has put them on ebay and can be reached at email: cupcakeskisses@hotmail.com
I may be biased because she is my sister, but all the others who try her cupcakes love them enough to order them as well. They are a family recipe passed through our family - are muffin size and taste awesome!!! Im not so talented in the kitchen myself!!!
Her prices are good because she is a bargain hunter herself and cant bring herself to sell them for a high price! But they taste better than any other cupcakes I have tried!!! If you want to see a pic - have a look at ebay under "delicious cupcakes perfect for weddings, birthdays..." You will not be dissapointed!!!

Hi,
I'm wanting to start up my own Cupcake business on the gold coast.
Does anyone have any advise on how to get things started?!
Anonymous said…
You should start by contacting your local council and get your kitchen approved! I looked into it and it is not possible to get my home kitchen certified so no home based business for me!
The regulations are different in each state so it might be easier for you in QLD! I have heard that sometimes they knock you back but keep trying and you will get someone that will actually help you.
You will be able to get a great little cupcake business going if you offer a product that is different to the local competition so sheck them out and compare prices to see if you can match them price wise and beat them with service and product. When you have a nice little customer base and word of mouth sperads it would be a great idea to have a web site set up so your customers can see what is new!
It's hard to offer specific advice to you because I don't know you but there are cake forums like cakes & more here is the link http://cakedec.forumotion.com/
where there are heaps of aussie decorators who will be able to help!

They look cute, but they also look identical to "My Little Cupcake" cupcakes in Sydney, except with a leaf added. Actually alot of cupcake places do the same cakes as they are the only nice flowers you can buy. I hope My Little Cupcake doesn't mind them calling them their "signature cupcakes" because they are the same as their signature cupcakes, except with a leaf. Then again being the first cupcake place in Sydney they were bound to get copied. That's part of having a business,
I hope they taste as good :)
