Silicone cups of another sort...

It seems that silicone can be put to many good uses, including cupcake making. From the description on Sur La Table's website:

Baking is a snap with reusable silicone cups. Just fill the 2-ounce cups and place them on a cookie sheet to bake. After cooling, turn the cups over and your baked goods will pop right out. Made of high-quality, food-grade silicone for easy baking of muffins, cupcakes, tarts or candy. Can also be used to make frozen deserts. Dishwasher safe. Made in USA.

I suppose Sili-Cups are the next logical extension of silicone-based cookware, but personally, I'll stick to my paper liners for now.

I saw these at SLT the other day when I was looking for some new baking pans. Kind of expensive.

It seems to me the benefits of silicone are best left for baking proper. The problem of silicone cupcake liners is that they are then intended to be served in same. That means you have to figure a way for them to be retrieved. The last thing I want to do at a party is keep track of what would normally be thrown away.

They work well if you aren't taking them to a party, though, and you could always remove the liners before taking them. I like them because they reduce waste.

I use the ones by Cuisinart, I think the manufacturer is, and I've really liked them. Got them on sale at Target, and I'm sure the savings really adds up over time -- plus, I like having one less thing to throw away.
