Chatham-Kent's first specialty cupcake shoppe has opened its doors at 323 Queen St. in Chatham.
Known as Sweet Nuthins, the store features 12 different flavours of cupcakes.
The bakery is an expanded venture of local entrepreneurs Susie and Gareth Barnes, who have been creating homemade and hand-decorated special-occasion cakes from home since 2004.
With the new storefront location, the Barnes plan to increase daily production to offer fresh-baked cupcakes, cookies and brownies in addition to specialty cakes and homemade dog snacks.
"Cupcakes have become very popular in recent years in urban settings," said Susie Barnes. "There are cupcake shoppes in most major centres including Toronto."
She said highly-decorated cupcakes are being featured at bridal showers, fundraising galas, church socials, corporate events, school fundraisers and birthday parties.
"They're not only delicious, but they are individually portioned, conveniently portable and a welcomed change from the usual."
