Tribeca Treats hosts customer cupcake flavor contest

Too bad we didn't know about this Tribeca Treats cupcake contest sooner - next year we'll try to give you a heads up. I think it's wonderful when a bakery lets their customers give input and participate like this. And... one of our readers, Gretta, is a finalist on Wednesday! Here's what she has to say:

My cupcakes is called the "Marvelous Mint Chocolate Cupcake"

Chocolate cupcake w/ homemade mint chocolate truffle pieces mixed into the batter- covered with a white chocolate butter cream frosting dyed light mint green color and topped with a mint chocolate truffle.

I thought it was decadent but Tribeca Treats makes chocolate in house so I thought it would be appropriate.

We visited Tribeca Treats in October as part of our NYC Cupcake Meetup and really enjoyed the cute space and yummy cupcakes. They're located at 94 Reade Street in, yes, Tribeca, and are open 10 to 7 Monday through Saturday (they even do delivery!). And of course if anyone goes and tries these, please take photos and send them in. We'll have an interview up here with Head Confectioner Rachel Thebault soon.

From Tribeca Treats:

For our second semi-annual contest, we collected flavor ideas throughout the last two weeks of February. We received close to 50 entries and narrowed them down today to 9 semi-finalists. There were a lot of mouthwatering suggestions that unfortunately had to be ruled out--some would be too expensive to make for our $2 price point, some required production aspects that would be impractical to keep up with our demand, and some were flavors that we already make. We had an overwhelming skew toward chocolate based flavors, and I think we narrowed it down to some great options. The tasting
schedule will be as follows:

Wednesday, March 5th - chocolate chip cupcake, chocolate mint, rocky road

Thursday, March 6th - green tea, white chocolate raspberry, chocolate orange

Friday, March 7th - tiramisu, chocolate almond, butterscotch praline

For those three days, with any purchase, a customer will be offered mini cupcakes in each of the daily flavors along with a ballot. Then they rate each flavor on a scale of 1-10, and we average the scores. The top three scorers will win prizes and be added to the menu.
