New bakery Cupcake Squared in San Diego doesn't just have a catchy name, but a whole new take on the shape of cupcakes - namely, in a square. We're hoping to have more photos soon (or if you have any, please send them in).

According to KFMB:

A brand new cupcake shop in Point Loma is proving it's hip to be square.

Cupcakes Squared is dedicated solely to cupcakes, and all the delicacies are square.

The shop boasts plenty of organic cake flavors intended to surprise your taste buds.

"One of my favorite ones is the pistachio pomegranate and I have a mascarpone frosting. I'm trying to use some different, maybe more savory ingredients," co-owner Robin Ross Wisotsky said.

PISTACHIO POMMEGRANATE (or how ever you spell granada in English)
I love pistachios so it was kind of a foregone conclusion we'd get one of the these. I'd like to say I loved the cupcake, but I can't. Not sweet enough, texture was too coarse, and the cupcake was tough and rubbery. The frosting flavored with poms was good.

VANILLA CHAI (and I don't remember what the icing was)
Basically a spice cake. I liked it, my friend and another person did not. They thought the flavor was "weird. Crumb was better on this cupcake but it was dry and tough.

CHOCOLATE MACADEMIA with chocolate icing
Chocolate flavor was nice, icing was good, but cupcake was dry - or crusty, as my friend put it - and rubbery. He thought it might have been over baked; he also thought the two previous samples might have been tough from over baking as well.

CARROT CAKE with cream cheese icing
At last we found a winner. The carrot cake cupcake *was* good, very good, but not good enough to warrant a drive out from East County to buy 1 or 6. This was the only cupcake of the 4 we sampled (well, I only got to sample 3, see below) that was moist and had an appropriate cake-like texture, wasn't tough or rubbery. The flavor was very good and clearly identifiable as carrot cake.

I came into your store yesterday and waited 7 minutes before I was acknowledged. I ordered 3 cupcakes to try at $2.75 each. One chocolate and two vanilla. The vanilla tasted as if you used bisquit to make it. It had a teaspoon of frosting that tasted like butter and confection sugar that had melted down the sides of the squared paper. All three of us became sick to our stomachs. The chocolate was a much better quality of cake. My point is the cup cakes need to be kept cool and when a customer enters they should be acknowledged.
Thank you,

I came into the store today and ordered 2 cupakes. One vanilla, one red velvet. The vanilla frosting was way too sweet, pure confection sugar and cake was well, a bit dry. I can make better (cake and frosting) at home. The "red" velvet was more like a mild carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Both cupcakes were placed into a paper bag, which as you can image, did wonders for the frosting. Overall, save your money and calories and make them at home.

I brought my Brownie Troop here for a scheduled tour in mid-May. Robin (owner) was very gracious and giving of her time. At my request, she spoke to the Troop about running a business and afterwards answered their questions. Her staff even prepared special S'Mores Cupcakes for my Troop. A totally terrific experience. We'll be back!

This place is amazing!

I'm did a cake tasting for my wedding next year and we couldn't be happier. It was the most delicious
cupcakes that my Fiancee, our good friend and I had ever tasted.

We had no problems with the service and it is a small place and they do run with a small staff. But even then- they were super nice and extremely helpful.

We are definitely going to be back and being only open for 3 months- I think this place is doing an AWESOME JOB!
