6) LET THEM EAT CUPCAKES

Sure, cupcake mania is everywhere. But nowhere is it more deserved than at MagPies (112 South Central Street; 865-673-0471; www.magpiescakes.com), a place whose motto is “all butter all the time.” The baker, proprietress and adequate accordion player Peggy Hambright specializes in “super deluxe flavors,” that change every month. Recent favorites have included Key lime pie and blackberry buttermilk. The bite-size cupcakes sell by the dozen ($12 for the mini super deluxe, $9 for basic chocolate and vanilla; a dozen full-size cupcakes are $24 and $18, respectively).

While I have not tried the local fav, MagPies, I have Cities Cupcakes. Being from Los Angeles, where we REALLY do love our cupcakes, I am addicted to Cities. While out on my cupcake hunt I went to the CupCakery, I walked out, not only do that have just 4 flavors, they are very rude stuck up teens. The gals at Cities allowed me in after closing time and I went home with one of each flavor! Never thought I would enjoy a beer or jalapeno cupcake, I am now addicted. Whenever I need to bring a dish to an event, I call CitiesCupcakes!

Just back from a quick trip to Knoxville. While there we stumbled upon Magpies Cupcakes. Oh my!! We brought a dozen mini cupcakes back on the plane with us last night. By this afternoon they were all gone. (There are only two of us) Wish they shipped to Manhattan. Delicious!
