I haven't yet had a chocolate cupcake that I wasn't disappointed by... I know that sounds sad, it really is! I think I want to work on a mud cake cupcake recipe that's really dense and fudgy. That'd be my ideal chocolate cupcake!

I made the worst chocolate fudge icing the other night. You should never substitute icing sugar for normal sugar that you've pulverised in the blender... I learnt later that icing sugar is 50/50 sugar and corn flour! The more you know, eh!?

My favorite chocolate cupcake was eaten last week at my twin nephews blessings (like a christening) - a box chocolate cake mix with semi-sweet chips added in and turquoise buttercream frosting on top. Awesome!

my fave chocolate cupcake is a mexican chocolate cupcake that my two best girlfriends made me for my birthday. they had a recipe they started with from a cupcake cookbook at williams-sonoma, but they came up with their own buttercream frosting recipe, while they baked! they were enormous, and messy, and not very pretty to look at, but the flavor was WOW!

My favorite chocolate cupcake is the chocolate mint recipe from Vegan Cupcakes TOTW. Delish!

I haven't actually had a cupcake in a long time, but the ones that stand out in my memory are my Dad's chocolate cupcakes (although we call them buns), I don't know how he does it cos he never refers to a recipe book, instead he throws everything into a bowl, stirs, pops the mixture into cases and away we go!!

The absolute best chocolate cupcake (at least in Manhattan) is Amy's Bread's Black & White cupcake. The chocolate cake is so moist and a little bit brownie-like under the frosting. And the frosting itself is to die for...

Oh man. I wonder if they're open now?

I admit, my favorite chocolate cupcakes are the ones that my mother makes. They are your basic cupcakes, but she doesn't make them very often. The last time was when my husband and I got separated and he finally moved out. I went to her house and she *just happened* to have finished icing the chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, my favorite.

Favorite... miniature chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache, because then I can eat lots of them! I made a few batches over the summer and they were awesome.

This Salted Caramel Chocolate cupcake is just fantastic:

http://sweettreatsbakingblog.blogspot.com/2008/04/hersheys-chocolate-caramel-cupcakes.html

but I made 'em using the chocolate cake recipe from Alice Water's The Art of Simple Food cookbook and I modified the frosting recipe because melting the butter made a too-soft frosting.

My favorite cupcakes are the ones I make for the Ultraviolet Cafe in Albany, NY. They're a rich moist recipe made with sour cream and coffee. I frost them with vanilla or mocha buttercream frosting, and occasionally cream cheese frosting, Later this season I will introduce mint frosting and raspberry buttercream, both of which are delightful on chocolate cupcakes.
