"I cannot be a grump while eating a cupcake"

Kristin at Feasting Fort Collins (Colorado) has written a very thorough review of Butter Cream Cupcakery. She has photos but more importantly, she has been there several times so can give a nuanced perspective:

Butter Cream opened when I was at the end of my pregnancy with my youngest son and let me tell you - chocolate cupcakes are music to a pregnant womans' ears. I did not have the easiest pregnancy by any means and my amazing friends would bring me cupcakes from there to cheer me up. It worked! I'm sorry, but I cannot be a grump while eating a cupcake. It goes against the laws of physics.

I've never had a bad cupcake in my life. I just don't think it's possible. However, there are average cupcakes and then there are amazing cupcakes. At first, Butter Creams' cupcakes didn't live up to my high expectations. They were alright. Some of the cake flavors were a bit dry and crumbled, but the frosting flavors were always good. The only flavor I felt was amazing was their red velvet. That was a mighty tasty cupcake. Moist, sticky and full of heaven...only smaller. I went back again last week and had a completely different experience. Once again I got a few of their traditional flavors and to my surprise, they were much better. Much, much better. My friends who were with me agreed. All of the cakes were now just like the red velvet in texture and consistency. After chatting with their baker and co-owner, Mary DeHerder and co-owner, Robin Pavel, I was told that some of the cake recipes have changed. Good for them, bad for my hips!

Kristin writes that if you tell Butter Cream Cupcakery your favorite flavor, they'll call or email you the day before they're making it - how's that for customer service?!

She also notes that on Thursdays, they have vegan and gluten-free cupcakes, and notes that it's very kid-friendly. Thanks, Kristin, for such a thorough review!

And I see via their website that they have free wireless Internet access - I think all bakeries should have that, but then again, I'm kindof addicted to the internet. They also have daily special flavors:

Tuesday, June 16th - Mint Chocolate Chip
Wednesday, June 17th - Orange Chocolate Truffle
Thursday, June 18th - Key Lime
Vegan Banana Split
Gluten Free Vanilla Bean
Friday, June 19th - Cherry Chocolate Chip
Saturday, June 20th - TBD
Sunday, June 21st - PB & J
