From the press release - though perhaps the more interesting story for the wider cupcake community is that, with its up to $1.5 million venture capital funding, Phoebe's Cupcakes plans to try to catch up with Sprinkles and Crumbs as a cupcake chain by expanding to 20 stores nationwide! We are truly a long way to go from cupcake exhaustion, my friends.

Phoebe's Cupcakes(TM) (www.phoebescupcakes.com) of Chicago announced today that it has entered into distribution agreements to sell 9 flavors of Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs ice cream in individual size packaged cups. Phoebe's Cupcakes will sell Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Strawberry Cheesecake, Cherry Garcia and Vanilla flavors of Ben & Jerry's and Dulce de Leche, Coffee, Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla flavors of Haagen-Dazs.

At Phoebe's Cupcakes' Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 25th from noon to 6:00 PM, Phoebe's Cupcakes will offer a free cup of Ben & Jerry's or Haagen-Dazs packaged ice cream cups to the first 500 customers that purchase a cupcake, with the Grand Prize Winner to receive a free cup of Ben & Jerry's or Haagen-Dazs ice cream a week for one year. Phoebe's Cupcakes is located in Chicago in the Lakeview neighborhood at 3327 N. Broadway (Broadway and Buckingham).

Phoebe's Cupcakes founder and President Phoebe Walters said of the new distribution agreements, "Ice cream and cupcakes really completes the marriage between being a kid wanting sweets and a grown up wanting something gourmet." Walters indicated that the company will offer ice cream at all of its first planned 20 locations nationwide. The company is currently evaluating opening a second location either in Chicago or on the West Coast.

Phoebe's Cupcakes will sell Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs ice cream for a $1.65 per single size package. Phoebe's Cupcakes are priced at $2.50 per cupcake (with discounts for half dozen and dozen orders), and customers buying a cupcake with ice cream will receive a combo price of $3.95.

On a side note, I was just perusing their site (they so need to start that blog, especially with all these expansion plans and 200+ flavors, though they are on Twitter), and it says that Phoebe Walters along with Kate McNamara have catered a wedding with 5,000 guests! My mind boggles at that.
