Cincinnati cupcakery Abby Girl Sweets opens in downtown area

Business Courier of Cincinnati reports on the opening of Abby Girl Sweets:

Downtown Cincinnati has its first “cupcakery,” with the opening of Abby Girl Sweets at 41 W. Fifth St.

Abby Girl, across from Macy's, opened Jan. 7, said Nathan Thompson, who owns the store with his wife, Andrea. It offers 10-12 cupcake flavors per day, along with a flavor of the week, he added. Cupcakes retail for $2.75 each, or $2.50 each per half-dozen.

Thompson does all the cupcake baking and Andrea does the decorating. The shop is named after their daughter Abby, the official “taster,” he said.

Abby Girl opened five months ago in Oakley, but the Thompsons decided to move the business downtown, he said. “We didn’t get the foot traffic we needed there.”

Photos are from their Facebook page; they are also on Twitter (@AbbyGirlSweets). Special flavors today are chocolate truffle on buttermilk cake and strawberry shortcake. They say they will feature a new flavor each week (52 flavors/year) in addition to these regular ones:

Strawberry Delight
Neapolitan
Red Velvet
Chocolate Supreme
Peanut Butter Cup
Classic Vanilla Buttercream on Vanilla
Almond Buttercream on Chocolate
Pistachio
