Here's my interview with Jody Hall, owner of Seattle's Cupcake Royale, which has multiple locations. I got to visit the Capitol Hill one, the new one with the pretty stained glass. It's quite spacious and had a fun vibe, with rock band posters on the walls and cool design, which Jody talks about. Unfortunately, I only got to taste one or two cupcakes in the store and gave away my salted caramel cupcake, which looked delicious, to a kid on the light rail as I was on my way to the airport. The vanilla/vanilla (Dance Party With Holly Hobby) mini cupcake I did taste was extremely moist and delicious.
They don't do a lot of flavors, but instead focus on the ones that know are most popular. Jody also gave us some fun t-shirts, including one that says "These Cupcakes are Taken," which are only given to people who come in for a wedding cupcake tasting. See photos of the Capitol Hill Cupcake Royale, including cupcakes, decor, and merchandise, in my Flickr set.
