Yesterday brought me to the grand opening of the Celebrate Cafe (located in the Bowery Poetry Club) from the Lower East Side Girls Club.

There were kids singing and dancing out front, and deliciousness waiting for me inside.

and

But I was there for the cupcakes (well, and to support a great cause, but yes, mostly for the cupcakes).
Sierra Fromberg (Development Associate) greeted me with a tray of vanilla minis:

There were also chocolate minis:

It was about 90-some degrees out and very humid (oh how I loathe summers in NYC) so I kept it light with one mini and oodles of fresh and tasty green tea (sans sugar, my favorite!)

My yummy vanilla-vanilla mini. Consumed in two bites. Chomp!
There's lots of food available, none of which I had the opportunity to try (but I'll be back, Celebrate Cafe, I'll be back!) but it all looked fabulous and was locally sourced and fair trade.

And all benefiting a wonderful cause: providing a place for girls and young women (ages 8 t0 23) to grow, learn, and receive job training (as well as having fun!). The Lower East Side Girls Club is my neighbor (we're on the same block!) and I have watched them grow and provide for the neighborhood for many years.
Lots of neighborhood folks dropped by the opening of Celebration Cafe to enjoy the sweet treats and cool off from the unrelenting heat.

Sierra and LES Girls Club, thanks for inviting me and many congrats on the new cafe!
