The Bleeding Heart Bakery expands to Wrigleyville, hosts cupcake eating challenge on Saturday

News about the latest expansion of Chicago's delicious and creative home of "punk rock pastry" The Bleeding Heart Bakery, from Chicago Now:

The shop's team that specializes in custom cakes, elaborate cupcakes and gourmet pastries also will focus on Chicago's thriving DIY craft culture and local art scene while displaying rotating art instillations. The displayed talent will range from portraits to graffiti work and be a far cry from "boring landscape art," Marshall said.

CUPCAKE EATING CHALLENGE: For the grand opening at 2 p.m. Saturday, Bleeding Heart will play host to a competitive cupcake-eating contest for both children and adults. There will be a timed contest and "most creative eater" contest with prizes from gourmet burger joint Kuma's Corner and tattoo shops The Alley and Taylor Street Tattoo.

THE GIST: There are about 30 seats, scattered chairs, a bright orange couch and a pillow-lined window nook coming, along with walls filled with local artists' work. Expect bright colors and the famous punk/alt rock-inspired appeal to add a little edge.

I LOVE the Bleeding Heart Bakery! For my wedding last year, one of my bridesmaids who lives in Chicago picked up gluten free and vegan cupcakes from there for our wedding guests with food allergies! They were a huge hit!
