We'll have more about CupcakeCamp Santa Barbara soon, but for now, from the Lompoc Record:
The first local Cupcake Camp surpassed the expectations of organizer Blake Colvin of Cupcakes for Cancer by setting a fundraising record of $10,000.
The total raised by the Valley teen and her friends on July 25 in Santa Barbara broke the previous high total of $8,000 set in November 2009 in Montreal.
The Santa Ynez Valley resident donated the proceeds to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, which helps Central Coast families of children battling cancer.
“We can’t believe how well attended it was and want to thank everyone for their help and contributions,” said Stephanie Colvin, Blake’s mother.
Bakers of all expertise levels from amateur to professionals were on hand to show off their sweets at Fess Parker’s Double Tree Resort. For a $10 donation, tasters received a ticket for four cupcakes as well as free milk to “cleanse the palate.”
Other activities included a Betsey Johnson party dress fashion show, a cupcake-eating contest, a “Cute as a Cupcake” fashion and accessory parade and contest, a frosting bar and a cupcake boutique.
