I think these Pirates of the Caribbean cupcakes from Cake Break in Rehoboth Beach, via this Facebook album, are so charming, in part because they're not "perfect" or exactly the same. They have personality, like each one is saying something different. I think if I had to pick I'd go for the frowning one on top - there's something so incongruous about a frowning cupcake, I can't help but want to cheer it up by...eating it.

This one was decorated by a kid using their sprinkle tray! Even though the foil-wrapped Hershey's Kisses need to be unwrapped (well, hopefully!), they still look adorable. I think offering a way for people to decorate their own cupcake, kindof like the self-serve frozen yogurt shops, is a fun way for kids or adults to liven up their cupcakes.
