Cupcakes For A Wish: Miami's First Cupcake Camp

Cupcake Camp Miami
Monica Nares, our cupcake enthusiast in Miami, attended Cupcake Camp Miami and wrote this post.
Miami cupcakers came out and let our cupcake-freak-flags-fly on Wednesday night Nov. 3rd @ Cafeina Wynwood Lounge.  Cupcakes For a Wish   was Miami's very first cupcake camp and it all benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This was also my first cupcake camp, and I have to say- I'm ready for more! It is like a Woodstock,(or Lollapalooza for the Gen Xers) of cupcakes. I still have my sugar high! Miami cupcake enthusiasts came out and baked their stuff for a great cause, so far, over $1600 was raised.

There was a wide variety of flavors and baking styles. There was also a judged portion wich included categories such as BestMiami Inspired Cupcake, Best Traditional Cupcake, and Best Decorated Cupcake. Miami's Latin flavors were represented by virtually every baker with several guava cream cheese minis (in Miami that's almost as important as a vanilla), dulce de leche frosting and fillings,a flan cupcake  by Baez Party Productions, and an amazing Tres Leches cupcake baked by The Sweet Life. I am not a huge tres leches fan, but now that there's a moist and cinnamony cupcake version I've been converted! Alejandra Contenti of Contenti Cupcakes shared her," full-figured," minis frosted and garnished like bonbons. Her Bollywood cupcake was one of my overall favorites of the evening, it is a vanilla cupcake filled with the Indian dessert called Carrot Halwa, which is carrots cooked in milk and spices. It was sweet, and earthy, and surprisingly not overwhelmed by the moisture of the carrots.

Around every corner of this mecca of cupcake joy were so many fantastic surprises, including the Vanilla Martini cupcake baked by. Ivonne cake.love.couture. It was a citrusy vodka infused vanilla cake, light and airy and not drowned out by the alcohol.
Stephanie and her mom, of Sweetness Bakeshop and Cafe  brought their soft, fluffy, cloud like minis in a variety of flavors including coconut curry, maple bacon, and a crazy wasabi cupcake- you go Steph! Sweetness will be launching Miami's very first dessert truck called Sugar Rush in just a few weeks. As soon as it turns, "faux fall," here in the tropics, Miami Cupcakers bust out our pumpkin recipes, put on our boots and pretend. Pumpkin Dulce de Leche, anyone? Thanks to Stephanie Diaz for getting the Miami cupcake community together. Maybe she can help organize Iron Cupcake Miami.  It's true we do have a," cupcake crew," who is talented, and generous. Who could make a better wish?
