FEED charity vanilla/vanilla cupcakes at Little Cupcake Bakeshop are very tasty

Last night I stopped by Little Cupcake Bakeshop in SoHo, and was pleased to learn they're open until 11! I will review the other cupcakes I tried separately, but my favorite of the 3 I bought was the FEED cupcake, which costs a little extra (I think it's 25 cents more), with proceeds going to Lauren Bush's FEED Projects. Visit them at littlecupcakebakeshop.com and their Facebook page for more information.

My friend Tristan says that she judges cupcake bakeries by their vanilla/vanilla. I usually go for more exotic flavors but I do love a good vanilla cupcake, in some ways even more than chocolate, and this one was delicious. I liked the lettering on the cupcake, and the frosting was a little firm on top and then sweet and vanilla-tasting, but not sickeningly so. The cake was sweet too and just had a wonderful texture. I've had some cupcakes I really liked at Little Cupcake in the past and some I didn't as much, but this one won me over, with both parts (frosting and cake) working well separately and together. I'm kindof a stickler for that; I have trouble appreciating a cupcake unless all parts of it taste good. And it's for charity!

Here's a summary of what FEED Projects does, from this interview with Lauren Bush at The Grindstone (they are also doing a Judith Lieber clutch - Lieber made the infamous cupcake purse that was featured in the Sex and the City movie):

The ideas was simple: for every FEED bag purchased, a child would not go hungry in school for an entire year. The FEED line eventually expanded to include accessories and clothing and today it is responsible for providing over 61 million meals to children around the world and selling over 550,000 bags. FEED has also launched special bag and accessory lines to contribute to relief efforts in Japan, Haiti and schools in the U.S.

And these custom graduation cupcakes I found in the fan photos section of their Facebook page:
