Sibby's Cupcakery: San Mateo, CA

Members of the Sibby's Cupcakery team were special guest judges at the May Iron Cupcake SF and I just knew that I needed to try their cupcakes before leaving San Francisco. The cupcakes were as delicious as they are gorgeous and it is no wonder that they operate via word of mouth and rave reviews.

Sibby's Cupcakery is a baked-to-order bakery with delivery and pick up options available. Appointments can be made to pick up your cupcakes in the adorable downtown San Mateo bakery. Picking up my order was a sweet treat, as I got to see the talented decorators at work.

I enjoyed watching four talented decorators pipe everything from roses to soccer balls to patriotic stars for the Memorial Day weekend. Brides to be who are thinking about incorporating cupcakes into their wedding simply must consider Sibby's Cupcakery. While browsing their wedding album, I fell in love with all of the custom designs available to accommodate any color palate.

All of Sibby's creations are baked to order from scratch using only the finest ingredients, including fresh eggs, sweet cream butter from local dairy farms, Scharffen Berger chocolate and Nielsen-Massey pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla. I had the pleasure of sampling the Sibby's Sampler which on that particular day contained Lemon Drop, Orange Creamsicle, Grandma's Chocolate Tea Cake, Confetti Surprise, Snickerdoodle and Red Velvet.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed every single flavor in this sampler. The cake was moist, fluffy, and topped with the perfect frosting ratio. Each frosting was rich and flavorful without being overpowering. I was nervous about the Lemon Drop and Orange Creamsicle as I tend to not favor these particular flavors. Both were very subtle and light and actually very enjoyable - they'd be lovely with an afternoon tea. The Snickerdoodle, Red Velvet and Grandma's Tea Cake (rich chocolate cupcake with cream cheese/chocolate chip center, topped with Sibby's rich and fudgy chocolate frosting) were fantastic, but I have to admit that the Confetti Surprise was my absolute favorite. The light and creamy vanilla cream cheese frosting was perfectly showcased atop this fun confetti cake.

Although Sibby's Cupcakery does not have a storefront, their minimum pick up order is smaller than most baked-to-order cupcakeries: 1/2 dozen regular sized or one dozen mini cupcakes. When asked how they remained so successful without a storefront, their immediate response was Yelp! Sibby's has over 500 reviews with almost 350 five-star ratings. When searching for cupcakes in the Bay Area, you can't help but to be drawn to Sibby's Cupcakery. Once you have tried these delicious homemade creations, you are sure to be back time and time again.
