Two bakeries now sit side-by-side with a lot in common, but their clientele are very different.
Cupcakes by the Beach is the newest shop in downtown Fort Walton Beach. Owner Vanessa Poch opened June 21 in the perfect location: Right beside her daughter.
“It just seemed right,” Vanessa said. “I wanted to do that niche market and this was the perfect location.”...
Vanessa said when decorating she wanted to keep the beach in mind, but take on the cute factor that owning a cupcake-only store requires.
A variety of cupcake liners, paper straws and cupcake accessories line the store and sit beneath chandeliers with cupcakes tearing down.
The brown and blue decorated shop offers all made-from-scratch cupcakes ranging from the el Diablo chocolate cupcake to a maple and bacon cupcake. Vanessa said her two bakers are constantly mixing and trying out new cupcakes to feature daily.
She said she has plans for a savory cupcake, a variety of daily specials and birthday parties in the shop, but she’s waiting on the future plans.

El Diablo cupcakes: Mexican chocolate cake, topped with a rich chocolate ganache frosting and dusted with red glitter sprinkles.
Key lime pie cupcake
Peanut butter and jelly cupcakes: peanut butter and jelly cake filled with strawberry preserves. Cream cheese frosting, a dab of strawberry preserves and a peanut butter cookie top.
Cherry Limeade cupcakes: Lime cake topped with maraschino cherry buttercream frosting and finished with a cherry & a lime slice.
S'mores cupcakes: rich chocolate cake with graham cracker crust, topped with fluffy marshmallow frosting that's been hand torched.
