Top 5 D.C. Cupcake Shops

When you call yourself "The Cupcake Critic", you have to anticipate being asked, "Who has the best cupcakes in D.C.?" It's always hard to narrow it down to only five and with every new cupcake experience my list changes however, below is my tried and true list of the top five cupcake places to visit the next time you are in the nation’s Capital. Enjoy!


1. Georgetown Cupcake: 3301 M Street NW, DC

Cost: $2.75 each
Favorite flavors: Vanilla with cream cheese frosting, Chocolate Lava Fudge, Salted Caramel, and Pumpkin Spice. 

Georgetown Cupcake is a hometown favorite whose lines are worth the well-priced treat. With two books (Sweet Celebrations and The Cupcake Diaries), a TV show, and new stores popping up in Boston, New York,and Los Angeles, Georgetown Cupcake still manages to produce their signature red velvet cupcakes perfectly while adding new flavors to their already extensive menu.

2. Sprinkles: 3015 M Street NW, DC

Cost: $3.50 each
Favorite flavors: Strawberry, Key-Lime, Red Velvet and Lemon.
Located in Georgetown on M street (or Cupcake Row as I like to call it), Sprinkles is the original cupcake bakery giving patrons a completely boutique cupcake experience with a line of merchandise, over 15 daily flavors, and  cupcakes for your pooch.

3. Sticky Fingers: 1370 Park Road NW, DC

Cost: $2.75-4.00 each

Favorite flavors: Coconut Delight and Carrot Cake.
Sticky Fingers Bakery is a vegan lovers paradise with Doron Petersan, owner, author, and two-time Cupcake Wars winner at the helm. Not only are the cupcakes good, they are good for you and will satisfy vegan and non-vegans alike.

4.  Buzz Bakery: 818 North Quincy Street Arlington, VA

Cost: $2.50-$4.00 each
Favorite flavors: Vanilla, Cookie Monster, White Rabbit, and Boston Cream.
Buzz Bakery is a NoVa staple with two stores in Arlington and Alexandria and a third store opening in D.C.’s Yards Park. Under the creative direction of Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIssac, Buzz Bakery serves up treats for every palate and hosts a summer series complete with dessert-themed drinks, brunch and a happy hour.

5. Delectable Cakery: 7150 Chesapeake Road Suite 103 Landover, MD

Cost: $3.50 each 
Favorite flavors: Sweet Potato, Red Velvet, and Chocolate.
Delectable Cakery is a hidden gem whose signature sweet potato cakes can be found at Ben’s Next Door (the brainchild of D.C. landmark, Ben's Chilli Bowl) and other upscale restaurants. Their tiny storefront creates cakes and cupcakes that are literally delectable and served with a smile.
