Our colleaguest over at DCist try baking some cupcakes from Cake Love:
With Eating In having covered such illustrious and savory recipes as a Mediterranean Pidé, Red Snapper, and Lamb Karahi, we figured it was time to take a turn to the sweeter side of things. We don't pretend to know 1/10th as much about food as DCist resident chefs and experts Scott and Kanishka, but we do like a good baking once in a while. And thus Baking In was born. Our first challenge? To replicate the famous cupcakes at U Street bakery Cakelove. Though delicious, these cupcakes will run you $3 a pop, so we figured we'd try to make a less cost-prohibitive version at home. And while we're not sure we achieved Cakelove nirvana, these chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla meringue buttercream frosting (made all from scratch!) are sure to be snatched up in record time.
