Cupcakes on Page Six

From the New York Post's Page Six today:

CUPCAKE TIME
WHEN David Furnish, Elton John's companion, celebrated his 43rd birthday at The Spoke in Toronto recently, it was hours of karaoke fun. Mixing the music himself — including at least one Elton classic — Toronto-bred Furnish (above) partied with the cast and crew of the movie "It's a Boy/Girl Thing" he's been exec-producing in town. Shinan Govani, our man north of the border, reports that although Furnish's true love Elton couldn't make it, star Samaire Armstrong (from "The OC" and "Entourage") sampled Furnish's birthday cake (a three-level platter of chocolate cupcakes).

Does anyone know what Canadian bakery provided the cupcake platter? Cupcake-inquiring minds want to know!

My guess would be The Cupcake Shopped in Toronto. www.thecupcakeshoppe.ca

I'd contact the Spoke Club to confirm, but if you want my opinion.... the Cupcake Shoppe has become the place everyone "assumes" that any fancy cupcakes they have at a party come from in Toronto (we all know they don't come from storks) because the Cupcake Shoppe have such a strong retail presence, and they have one of the cutest shops in town. If the truth be known however, cupcakes from The Cupcake Shoppe are without a doubt the worst cupcakes in town - think waxy frosting and artificial cake flavour - I think the ones in the plastic trays at Dominion are comparable to theirs. Even though I haven't tried any of the ones listed in this article, I did find a great article/review on the subject (I'm a big cupcake fan, but of my own homemades).

Please, everyone, erase The Cupcake Shoppe from your database as the best cupcake shop in Toronto... be brave, expand your repertoire. I'm definitely going to explore and try the ones at the places listed above.
