I added 3tbls cocoa to make the cupcakes chocolate, and turned the oven to 350F to avoid the "peaking humps" she talks about. I think the recipe might be in How to be a Domestic Goddess too.
The frosting was an improvised white chocolate buttercream--about 1 cup white chocolate chips melted with 1/4 butter, then stirred into an equal amount of vanilla buttercream (I used the House Buttercream recipe from The Whimsical Bakehouse). I added a couple drops of peppermint extract, too.
