Yesterday turned out to have surprisingly lovely weather in Brooklyn and about 20 of us gathered in Red Hook, Brooklyn, at Baked. I wound up running into Erin Phraner and Meetup member Amy on the bus, which was cool, and we rode over together and talked cupcakes.
Erin writes for NYU's blog and has posted an extensive writeup, with photos (where I've taken these from) of the event. I found Baked's small cupcakes and very light frosting a treat after so many heavy buttercream frostings. The cupcakes didn't sit in my stomach so heavily and the cake was spongy and moist. Especially worth trying is the apple cupcake. Erin also bakes and takes amazing "food porn" quality cupcake photos, so look for an interview with her here soon.
To those who attended (or have had Baked's cupcakes), let us know what you thought here in the comments.
Stay tuned for details about October's NYC meetup and sign up to be part of the group so you can stay in the loop.
Also, today is the LA Cupcake Meetup at Yummy Cupcakes. And if anyone is interested in starting a Cupcakes Take the Cake Meetup in their city (San Francisco, I'm looking at you!), please email us and we can give you any info you need.
