DailyCandy continues to hate on give backhanded compliments to our favorite dessert. Today's DailyCandy SF piece "Icing on the Cupcake" about That Takes the Cake is a prime example:
There are plenty of reasons to hate cupcakes nowadays.
1.“Cupcake baker” has officially replaced “handbag designer” as annoying It profession.
2. They’re as overexposed as Brit’s weave.
3. Cuteness overload.
Still. All it takes is one good excuse to stay in love. Like the not-too-perfect creations at That Takes the Cake, a charming new cupcake bakery in Cow Hollow.
Owner Saralynn Reece takes a homemade, just-like-Mom’s approach to the eight rotating flavors she serves daily. Hand-frosted, craveable creations include Gentlemen Prefer Reds (red velvet cake with a dollop of cream cheese frosting), Sleepless in SF (chocolate buttermilk cake with coffee buttercream), and Snow Balls (coconut-and-almond cake with cream cheese frosting and coconut flakes).
We say: We know better!
