MagPies in Knoxville, Tennessee

We just added Knoxville, Tennessee bakery MagPies Cakes to our listings.

They've got a charming website, and special monthly flavors:

FEB: Tiramisu: Vanilla butter cake soaked in espresso, filled and coated in a light Tiramisu flavored buttercream. Finished with chocolate dust.

MARCH: Pistachio with white chocolate: Pistachio cake covered and filled with a heavenly white chocolate buttercream. Topped with chopped pistachios.

At MagPies the flavors change monthly.

"We have started doing super-deluxe flavors. This month is tiramisu cupcakes, chocolate-covered cherry cupcakes and red hot chocolate cupcakes for Valentine's Day," Hambright said.

In addition to being a popular snack food, cupcakes are giving the standard wedding and grooms' cakes a run for their money.

"People love that sort of novelty approach of the cupcake for weddings. We've done six or seven of them and it seems to be growing," Hambright said.

When deciding on design Hambright and DuLong both prefer to keep it basic.

"The beauty of the cupcake is its simplicity and we try not to complicate them too much. We usually add a swirl of butter cream icing and a sprinkling of nuts or a marzipan carrot or some fun confetti sprinkles," Hambright said.

DuLong said her creative designs come from research and practice.

"I think everybody loves cupcakes, plain or fancy. I love to look at books and magazines for different ideas and then I piddle around with them. I make a beautiful cupcake that looks like a sunflower … and we do puppy dogs, clowns and smiley faces," DuLong said.

Thanks for recognizing Knoxville in your blog! Although the News Sentinel article did cover MagPies, the "Lips" cupcake in the photo is from VG's Bakery in nearby Farragut, TN.
