MSN's 11 Best Cupcake Bakeries in the U.S.

MSN.com has highlighted the 11 best places to buy cupcakes in the U.S., with a little help from us:

Ever since 2000, when Magnolia Bakery’s pastel cupcakes upstaged Sarah Jessica Parker’s knee-socks on an episode of ‘Sex and the City’, cupcakes have undergone an unexpected (and well-chronicled) renaissance. Over the last eight years, cupcakes have been celebrated and re-imagined in countless ways, with new, cupcake-only bakeshops – inspired by Magnolia and Los Angeles’ Sprinkles Bakery – popping up all across the country.

Rachel Kramer Bussel, co-author of cupcake blog Cupcake Takes the Cake, admits that the glut of new cupcake boutiques means bakers have to work harder to stand out. “I think personalizing the cupcake with a unique flavor or flavors in addition to the usual ones is always nice,” Bussel says. “Increasingly, cities are seeing more than one bakery open so they have to do something to differentiate.” So, here are 11 of the most original (and delicious!) new cupcakes in America.

Read on to find out their favorites - and share your favorite cupcakes bakeries in the comments.

Anyone know if the author visited all 11 cupcakeries herself? Because I don't see how Chicago's Cupcakes could have made the list, unless the list contains the ONLY 11 cupcakeries the author has visited...

I've had my share of cupcakes, and Cupcakes in Chicago is definately not a spot I would go back to. I don't see either how it is possible it made the list. How about Sensational Bites in Chicago? Their twist on red velvet or their Boston creme cupcake is so good- it deserves to have made this list.

So many cupcake boutiques focus on creating overly ellaborate cupcakes with too many ingredients that overwhelm. Eating a cupcake should be comforting and uncomplicated. For me it is all about the taste. I like a fresh, moist cupcake with simple natural ingredients that can be savored. Baker Babes Bakery in Cleveland, Ohio makes cupcakes that are simple, yet wonderful. They are definately worthy of mention here.

Cake in a Cup in Las Vegas, NV is a brand new cupcake store that just opened, but OMG they are good. They even do the big cupcake any way you want. If ever in Las Vegas you have to try them. They should be on next list.

Just FYI, it seems that one can no longer access MSN's 11 Best Cupcake Bakeries in the U.S. It takes you to MSN but you can't see the article. Is there any way we can still see the list?? Thx.
