Pink and yellow hearts and glitter = a very pretty cupcake

From Flickr user michholly

What I like about a cupcake like this is that it probably only takes a minute or two to add some of the extras, but they make a huge difference.

What do you guys think about sprinkles - are they purely decorative or do you like to eat them? I like them for the decorative aspect, but I wouldn't really say I "taste" them.

I love the decorations for birthdays and fun events with a lot of glitz. However for more glamourous events, it should be done tastefully and minimalistic. I love using it but I prefer not to eat it. :D

I think they definitely add some mouth feel to the frosting.

Great decorations, but the 'crunch' factor is not loved by all...

i *love* them if they're sugar crystals, but I tend to flick them off if they are anything else...

(that's FLICK off, as in brush them off... not FLIP off, as in giving the bird.)

I'm wondering if you have any suggestions of where to purchase (online?) some of the materials for these fantastic little creations - from the baking cups to the decorative sprinkles.

I always try to make my cupcakes 'eater friendly'. The sugar decorations kids like, but adults seem to pick them off. I often use candies, like chocolate sticks or straw cookies for the adults.I use the clear edible glitter or sugar crystals for the glitz. I have a birthday party coming up soon and the request is for chocolate mint. I'm thinking of using York Peppermint Patties and cutting them into half moons with sugar crystals for stars or cutting the patties into polka dots using a cutter.

Into the wild- There's tons of spots on the net to get cool cupcake stuffs. Just google cupcake decorations.
