It was her sisters who suggested she make cupcakes with a whole Oreo cookie embedded at the bottom of each – and it's now among the most popular treats.

Then there are the strawberry cupcakes, made at the request of Kuhen-Orr's mother, who suggested she try using fresh berries. The result was a beyond-moist, bright pink cupcake dotted with chunks of strawberries for a tangy delight.

Then, of course, there's the main attraction at Five Sweets, the red velvet cupcake, which is studded with chocolate chips. It's not too-cool, like the ones at Sprinkles, or as dense as those at Zov's; Five Sweets' version conjures up nostalgic images of simple, home-baked goodness. But it's Kuhen-Orr's luscious buttercream frosting that deserves mention here, as it's a refreshing departure from frostings so overly sugary that they make your teeth ache. Kuhen-Orr uses only fresh butter, vanilla and eggs to whip up icing with just the right amount of sweetness.

Red velvets are traditionally made with a cream-cheese frosting, and Kuhen-Orr said cakes and cupcakes can be made with it, upon request.

"I just don't like the idea of having cream cheese sitting out for hours or all day; that kind of weirds me out," said Kuhen-Orr. "But you can certainly have it made to order."

When Kuhen-Orr opened Five Sweets last January, about 100 cupcakes a day were made. In fact, the night before the bakery's grand opening, Kuhen-Orr was so fraught with fear that no one would come that she cried herself to sleep.

"And then on my first day of business, we had 150 people come in," she said. "And people still keep coming, so I just keep on baking."

i love cassie. she's super sweet...just like her goodies. :)
i have some pics, if you type in five sweets on my flickr page (click name).
i'm not too keen on her red velvet. red velvet with choc. chips and buttercream frosting? mmm...i don't think so.
i like the idea of the oreo cupcake, but i think it's rather dry. if only there were a way to moisten it up.
her strawberry is to DIE for!!! and i'm not a strawberry kinda girl.
i haven't tried the chocolate cupcake, but i did order the hershey chocolate cake decorated with cherry blossoms for a friends b-day. sooo good!
cassie also offers chocolate, cookies, brownies, and an adorable little gift area to shop from.
did i mention her packaging??? all boxes are adorned with a festive handmade bow.
however...
there is no place to sit to enjoy your treets, and...
with dolcissimo just around the corner, if they get on the ball with their baking and offer seating, i might have to choose them over five sweets.

This bakery is the best. After having Cassie's cupcake I refuse to go to any other bakery. All of her bakery goods are amazing. Now for every event I go to I bring her treats. They are a hit everywhere I go. My daughter was recently invited to a birthday party at the bakery and it was wonderful! They help each kid bake goods and decorate. In addition to baking they also provided lunch for the kids. Every kid who attended wanted to to have their next party there!
