"Misha's Cupcakes: One woman's homemade 'mommy track,'" Miami Herald

And here's The Misha's Cupcakes website and a Miami Herald photo gallery - the article also links to some other Miami cupcake favorites, including Buttercream Cupcakes & Coffee, Dot's Treats, Stella's Sweet Shoppe, and Sweetcakes. We also like Cupcakes Nouveau. What about you Miami dwellers? Where do you like to get your cupcakes?

``I really got into being Mommy,`` says Kuryla-Gomez, 32. ``I just wanted to hang around my daughter. The thing is, I don't know why it happened because I had never been that way.''

So when her husband told her she had to find a job to shore up the family finances, Kuryla-Gomez decided to put her Florida International University graduate training to work. Her business plan was based on a secret chocolate cake recipe, lots of flour and butter, endless hours in the kitchen and a firm belief that most people, regardless of age, love to indulge in a cupcake every now and then.

The idea was to bake a few dozen a day and bring in enough money to stay at home with her then 3-month-old daughter. To her surprise, Misha's Cupcakes took off, turning a profit within months and outgrowing her home kitchen in less than two years.

Today, the company has a cult following and a kiosk at Dadeland Mall. It supplies a dozen cafés and restaurants and turns out as many as 3,000 cupcakes on any given Friday. Kuryla-Gomez manages seven employees and a bakery-office complex in a warehouse district off Bird Road in southwest Miami.

''I never really thought this would happen, but I feel blessed,'' she says. ``I'm lucky I found something I love and that makes me money.''

My favorite cupcakes in Miami are from Cupcakes Nouveau, www.cupcakesnouveau.com. I first tried their cupcakes at a friend's baby shower and I had to order them myself. I have ordered from them twice so far and the flavor and presentation is always fantastic. They have some beautiful pictures on flikr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/24208511@N03/.

Misha cupcakes leave a film in your mouth. Did not like them! She should use less oil or lard. I am looking forward to tasting Nouveau cupcakes and babycakes in Dolphin Mall.

I love Misha's cupcakes. SHe has really reinvented the cupcake as Magnolia's is so dry. I wish I could have one (or more) per day. My faves are the vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. I just don't know what she does to make the batter so moist. Aside from liking the actual cake, I like the fact that she's a female business owner who started her business from scratch and has really turned it into a success.

I've got to admit, I really disliked Mishas cupcaskes, they were so sloppy and they all seemed to have the same taste. It was hard to distingguish which was which when I had a cookies and cream & a red velvet at hand.

Misha cupcakes are no big deal. I too disliked them. The cookies and cream was a mess. I am going to give cuppiecakes a try. My all time favorite so far is Sprinkles cupcakes

I agree with rebecca1964 I too have had Babycakes Cupcakes and although I have not eaten the red velvet I have tried their mojhito and rasberry chocolit as well as their stawberry and they were all fabulous I too have eaten Mishas and thought that they do in deed all taste the same and that they were only average at best but Babycakes were some of the best I have had as well.

Mishas cupcakes are good. I have to disagree, Babycakes in Dolphin Mall need major improvement. The cake is dry and frosting is stiff. Buttercream is good as well, but they overcook the cake at times. My favorite is Little Miss Cupcake Bake Shop. Excellent quality, so delicious and organic to boot! http://littlemisscupcakebakeshop.googlepages.com

I think Mishas are good and so are Buttercream. It seems that everyone commenting and recommending people other than Misha's are friends of those other people..sorry but it just seems that way.

You have to try Everything's Cake cupcakes. It's like Miami's little secret...
She has cookie dough, pink champagne, dukce de leche just to name a few. I ordered them once and now I'm addicted to them. www.everythingscake.com

The cupcakes might be fresh, but Misha's customer service leaves a stale taste in your mouth. She charged a friend of mine $100.00 for a flimsy plastic circular base that broke which cost her $5.00. After he spent a bunch of money on a cake and cupcakes for a bridal shower. Ridiculous.

Have you tried the cupcakes from sweet temptations by Zory they are delicious, there cupcakes are really moist and you can really taste the flavors in each cupcake

Mischas are nothing special. The cake is pretty good but the icing doesn't taste homemade. Magnolia much better! In Miami the absolute best are the cupcake diva's. Freaking amazing. Melt in your mouth, moistest and most scrumptious cream cheese frosting. She does one with Kahlua that is to die for!

I think Mishas cupcakes are amazing!!!! They are always moist and taste the same where ever you buy them!!!! I myself make cakes and cupcakes and whenever I can't make it, I buy it from her shop!!!! She does a great job, and I am proud that she is a mom who went after what she wanted, and is very succesful!

Misha's Cupcakes are the worst. It really upsets me that so many people like it. Their customer service is horrible. they have a bunch of people in the back just chatting when only one person is in the front with a long line of people. Their cupcakes all taste the same. The only thing good about them is that the batter is very moist. I was going to all the cupcake places in miami trying to find the best and the only ones I like are Cupcakes Nouveau and Buttercream Cupcakes. Cupcakes Nouveau has a lot bigger selection than any cupcake place I've been too.
