Johnny Cupcakes lectures at Boston University

Sorry we didn't alert you to this - do add the Johnny Cupcakes blog to your RSS reader, cause it's fun and he's about to open his LA store. He spoke at Boston Unviersity last night and The Daily Free Press was there.

Earle said his experience taught him that putting time and money into little details can pay off in a big way, making individual businesses memorable. He not only furnished his store with antique refrigerators and baking trays, but packaged his shirts in bakery boxes, a unique concept, he said.

"The store tricks people every day," Earle said. "There is no way to tell it's not a bakery when people leave. I like keeping that secret. At least 80 percent of those fooled people buy something."

SMG student government member and freshman Taylor Riley said she invited Earle to speak because he is a great business role model and a top-drawer name amongst local college students.

"He represents business success because of his life story that he has come to share with us," Riley said in an email. "I think his shirts represent a creative and fun side to popular images and logos."

Students said they admired Earle's work because it is one of a kind.

"It is very unique and completely different," Athena Laines, a College of Arts and Sciences sophomore, said. "He took something everyone loves and mixed it with pop culture."
