Sprinkles opens in Scottsdale, Arizona today

Michele Laudig of the Phoenix New Times blog Chow Bella writes in "I gorged on Sprinkles Cupcakes:"

Anyway, these babies are (er, were...) damn good -- super moist, blanketed in a thick, smooth layer of icing, with little round confections on top that are color-coded, so you know what's inside. The killer red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing has a red and mint-green circle. The scrumptious strawberry with strawberry buttercream frosting has a pink and red doodad on top. They look like perfect little pop-art boobs done up in dessert form -- so totally Scottsdale! hahahahaha

I think the chocolate cupcake with dark chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles was the office favorite, although they were all quite tasty.

The Arizona Republic has 3 reasons to be excited about Sprinkles:

1.They're really, really good. Imagine just-baked cake scented with Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, heaps of milk chocolate cream cheese icing, even real chocolate sprinkles that melt in your mouth like the very best truffle. Each day brings 11 rotating flavors of cupcakes. There's even a cupcake schedule. Red velvet reigns supreme, but the swoon rating is high for cinnamon sugar, black and white, and banana coated in bittersweet chocolate frosting. Cupcakes are $3.25 each, a dozen costs $36, and yes, we recommend that on your first visit, you just go ahead and try each one.

2. They're chic. There's something deeply satisfying about cupping a tiny cake in your hand, especially when it looks this luscious. The packaging was designed by a former Martha Stewart maven. The coconut cupcakes appear to be ethereal puffs of snow. Some of the cupcakes are topped with bright, Kandinsky-esque sugar circles color-coded to the flavor inside. (A warning: you can eat them, but you won't want to.) The shop's interior is minimalist and sleek, with all eyes on the cupcakes lined up in cute little orderly rows...

3. Sprinkles sells frosting shots, which will either give you faith that these people understand your needs or gross you out entirely. Clearly this is a place that gets the sugar addiction. They even sell tall glasses of milk: creamy and cool, the perfect post-sugar salve, offered in skim, whole and chocolate-flavored for $2 a glass.

The latest Sprinkles is located at 4501 North Scottsdale Road at Camelback Road, across from Fashion Square. They are open Monday-Saturday 9-7 and Sunday 10-6, and their phone number is 480-970-4321.
