maraschino cherries are actually flavored w/almond and are red due to food coloring. the green cherries are mint flavored. interesting, huh?

Actually, green maraschino cherries have been around forever...

I am turning 50 this year (a YOUNG 50) and I can remember my mother putting both red and green maraschino cherries into ice cubes in the ice cube trays and freezing them for the drinks for her New Years Eve parties!

yeah, my mom always puts red and green maraschino cherries on shortbread cookies at christmas time.
