Cupcakes at BEA: If You GIve a Cat a Cupcake

I've been in LA the past few days for the annual book convention Book Expo America and was pleased to see plenty of cupcake presence - actual cupcakes giveaways on Friday and Saturday, cupcakes on book catalogs, and recipe books coming out this fall that look quite yummy (one from the Red Hook bakery Baked and a kids' book from Crumbs).

Above is a photo of the poster I got to promote If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, which comes out in September, writen by Laura Nemeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. It's part of her series (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie etc.) This image is also on the cover of the Harpercollins children's book catalog for the fall.

Here's what the catalog says:

If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you'll give him a bathing suit...and that's just the beginning. The lovable cat who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party now has his very own book! Written in the tradition of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond's newest story in this New York Times #1 bestselling series will show everyone that Cat is where it's at!

They were also giving away cupcakes that I think were grocery store cupcakes; I didn't have any because I was saving my cupcake appetite, but I can say that if you ever want to promote a book at BEA, give away cupcakes and your booth is sure to be mobbed (more on that later).

I was in line for these cupcakes, but didn't end up eating it - the woman passing them out said they were from "the convention center" which didn't have a very nice ring to it!
