Just opened: Lavender Moon Cupcakery in Alexandria, Virginia

Hello, Cupcake wasn't the only bakery to open up in the Washington, DC area lately. "Old Town’s Lavender Moon Cupcakery (116 S. Royal St., Alexandria; no phone number yet), made a quieter splash when it opened last Sunday, but we’re itching to try the farmers-market-inspired creations such as peach-and-basil," reports Ann Limpert at Best Bites Blog.

Blogger The Houndstooth Gourmet has the scoop on Alexandria, Virginia's Lavender Moon Cupcakery:

In the interest of gastronomic journalism (read-a great excuse to indulge!), Frank and I bought 3 cupcakes and sampled two as soon as we got back home. The Vanilla Lemon Curd topped with a fresh raspberry had vanilla-flecked frosting swirled high, and thick lemony curd piped into moist vanilla cake. Devils Food filled with Peanut Butter Ganache was a delightful surprise with a flavor combination that reminded both of us of a treasured childhood treat–a Tastykake. Again, the frosting was creamy, topped with a dark brown, shiny ganache, and the chocolate cake was rich and moist.

cupcakery2-500.jpgThe Mexican Chocolate Pudding Buttermilk Chocolate cupcake was thoroughly enjoyed with cup of coffee the next morning. It survived the night just fine in an airtight container. The Mexican Chocolate Pudding that filled the white cupcake was kissed with cinnamon and the cake was still held together with moisture.

Despite the modest and certainly understated opening of Lavender Moon Cupcakery, this store is selling thoughtful, creative and spot on delicious cupcakes-right out of the shoot. It is my belief that a faithful following will grow along with Peter and Tammy’s store.

Her's some info from Indulgent Health Blog:

Peter walked me through the choices and apologized for not having a more formal sign or menu to share with me. He and his wife just opened LMC the day before he told me, and as mentioned don’t even have a website or phone line yet. No worries! They’ve got the goods, and they’re mighty tasty. I had the “Summer Peach and Basil” – which sounded intimidating until Peter said he’d bought both the peaches and the basil at the farmer’s market that morning – 4:30am. How could I pass up that kind of freshness? And it was so very fresh. I love it when baked goods are so fresh they’re cool in my mouth. The icing was flecked with real vanilla bean specks, and had the tang of cream cheese, a fabulous foil to the cupcake itself, which was sweet with chunks of ripe peach and flecked with basil. I kid you not, it tasted like Summer. It was perfect.

The best part of all this indulgence? LMC cupcakes are right sized. Remember the cupcakes your Mom used to make? They’re that size. Just enough. I took my treasure home with me so I could really focus on enjoying it. I got a napkin, I got a beverage, and I spent some time with that cupcake. It was perfectly decadent. Peter told me they’re planning on putting in a few tables and chairs, which gets points in my book, since sitting down to enjoy your treats is the cornerstone of a Healthy Indulgence.

Went by today to try this newest cupcakery... not open and just a little hand-lettered sign saying that peach cupcakes were next door at The Grape and Bean. Went next door to try and buy some, but the sign was from the previous night and their neighbors had no idea why they weren't open.
Unfortunately, left very disappointed after battling Old Town parking nightmare...
