Barack Obama gives Joe Biden birthday cupcakes

I wonder where the cupcakes were from?

Via The Associated Press:

What does an accomplished man of the world get for his 66th birthday?

Well, President-elect Barack Obama already gave Joe Biden the vice presidency. So, for his birthday, Obama gave Biden two ball caps and a rendition of the birthday song.

Biden's birthday is Thursday, but Obama surprised his No. 2 after their weekly lunch Wednesday at the transition office in Chicago. According to staff, Obama presented Biden — a Delaware senator with decades of foreign policy experience — with a dozen cupcakes decorated with candles and teased, "You're 12 years old!"

Staff reported that Biden, ever astute in the art of politics, laughed at the his boss's joke. He responded: "Maybe in dog years!"

Obama led the rest of the staff in song, then handed over some Chicago-themed gifts: a White Sox cap, a Bears cap and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn, a hometown favorite.

I have heard rumors that they were from Sweet Mandy B's. I'm not positive though. The closest cupcake bakery to their office is More Cupcakes.

If they were from Sweet Mandy B's, Obama knows where to get some awesome cupcakes!

I'm pretty sure the cupcakes were from Swirlz Cupcakes. I went into the shop after I voted as an "I can't believe I just stood in line for an hour to vote" treat, and they had some really awesome red, white, and blue patriotic cupcakes. I bet Obama has eaten Swirlz before (I mean, come on, who hasn't??) and they seem like an awesome gift for someone's birthday. hmmm...maybe I'll special order some for my friend's birthday next week...mmmm...that light and fluffy buttercream...great, now I want one.

I would like to share an interesting observation here.

Normally when a famous face (popular or not) is anyway associated with cupcakes the bakery I work for is slammed with calls and customers. Since this election ended the pace has dropped off tremendously. The thrust of the incoming president campaign has fizzled and the economic downturn has made people hesitant.

I only hope things turn upward a bit so I can stay with this bakery.

I was told they were from MORE. Obama's office is closest to MORE and I was told by an employee at the store that Obama's staff are in and out of their bakery constantly.
