Cupcake! Cupcakes opens Monday in Tampa, Florida

The St. Petersburg Times has the scoop on Monday's opening of "boutique cupcakery" Cupcake! Cupcakes:

The offerings include a Key West Fantasy Fest (tangy coconut lime cupcake with a cheese coconut frosting), All Shook Up (fresh banana cupcake with creamy peanut butter frosting) and That's Amore (cheesecake topped with a crunchy graham cracker crust).

The store will also fill orders for custom-designed cupcakes to capture the theme and decor of any event.

"With everything that is going on in the world and our personal lives, a cupcake gives everyone a moment to feel happy," said co-owner Jeannie Nicholson. "It is your own personal treat that you get to unwrap and eat in your own personal style."

The decor at Cupcake! is reminiscent of a high-end, old-fashioned soda fountain. Cupcakes are displayed in a jewelry-type case, chandeliers hang throughout the store, and there is a children's sitting area.

Single cupcakes are $2.50 to $3, and minis are $27 for three dozen.

We purchased cupcakes here this afternoon- BIG DISSAPOINTMENT.

They didn't have any of their "designer" flavors available for purchase, I guess you have to special order them. You could only choose from their "classic" cupcake selection which was only 5 or 6 flavors.

We chose to buy 4 differnet flavors, all of which turned out to be stale with the exception of the red velvet / scarlet o'hara cupcake. The cookies and cream cupcake was so stale it was rough to the touch and the icing was practically chewy.

On the plus side the decor was cute, but the staff wasn't very friendly so unfortunatly the snooty service was the third strike. I don't think we're going to give this place another shot. There are too many other awesome places in Tampa Bay to get cupcakes.

If the shop owners come across this comment my advice would be to bake fresh daily, offer a larger selection and provide service with a smile. There's no excuse to serve customers stale product.

Michelle,
I am Jeannie Nicholson one of the owners. I would love for you to try us again. We opened our doors in December and we had so many people that we could not keep up with the demand. We do bake fresh daily and quality and customer service are our biggest priority. You are absolutely right there is no excuse to serve stale products. That is why we do not sell anything that was not baked fresh or freshly frosted. We feature a different gourmet flavor daily. We have added 4 new classic flavors to our existing 15. This week for superbowl we are being featured at the Life Off the Field Fashion show this Friday January 30 and on Saturday we will be providing cupcakes for the Direct TV Celebrity Beach bowl.
I am happy to report that most of our business is repeat business.
Hope to see you again.

Michelle;

I am so sorry to hear about your experience at our shop. I am Jeannie Nicholson one of the owners. We do feature one gormet flavor a day. We have 16 classic flavors. We do get whiped out at times and we have to constantly bake and re fill the cupake case. I am surprised to hear your dissapointment about our cookies are creamy is one of our most popular flavors. I would love for you to try us again. We do bake freshly everyday! Customer service is a very high priority. If you or anyone else ever has an unpleasant time at our shop please approach one of the owners there is no tolerance for it. In this economy is very hard to open a business and we do not want to loose any customers.
Make someone happy have a great cupcake day!

I bought cupcakes there last week and was extremely disappointed. For $2.50 per cupcake the icing was grainy, the cupcakes themselves were tiny and tasteless, and they come in little dinky paper cups like I can make at home. Except I make better cupcakes from scratch at home. Skip spending the money on this stuff and make your own at home.
