I went to San Antonio two years ago on a road trip that started at Dallas, TX, and meandering down to Mexico, via the Hill Country. So beautiful, and the Texas wildflowers kept me company the whole way. San Antonio was far and away my favorite stop though. I loved the River Walk, the people, the restaurants, and the history. It was just wonderful. Surprisingly, I had a much better time in San Antonio than I had in Austin, which is where I assumed I'd have the best time.
(Austin, where Rachel is heading on Tuesday for her panel at SXSW, has the rep of being hip, young, and liberal, but I found it to be more of a drinking town, and I don't drink. I did love the Austin Folk House Bed & Breakfast, where we stayed. Hi Folk House people and pets! We stayed in Room Eight, solely because I was smitten with the artwork.)
But I digress.
When I saw Flickr user Jill of Glossy Veneer's gorgeous cupcake pictures, I was thrilled to see the San Antonio link. She also has some sweet Alamo images. Anywho, Jill not only posted pictures of cupcakes from Kate's Frosting, she also blogged about them at her own blog, Glossy Veneer.

Don't the cupcakes have cute names? I would eat them for the names alone! Ruby Slipper, Jessica Rabbit... (Note to diabetics: Kate's Frosting even carries sugar-free cupcakes.)

Edit: My traveling partner, Michael, who used to live in Austin, assures me that the beauty of Austin wasn't fully shown to me on a visit. He says the joys of Austin are best served living in Austin, not merely visiting. He says I missed the funky little neighborhoods, the free swimming pools in every park, the movies at sunset, the bats and the bridge, the hippies, the wonderful publications, a naked Matthew McConaughey playing bongos, vegetarian restaurants, and the esprit de corps. I was only there for a few days, so I admit to missing a lot of that. I did meet some very interesting people though! A man named Ryan who shares my passion for collecting '50s, '60s, and '70s pulp-fiction novels (and who warmly welcomed these two strangers to his amazing home); a woman who has the most awe-inspiring curio shop on Guadalupe Street "the Drag"; and of course, the people at the Austin Folk House, who could NOT have been nicer if they'd tried. Hm...maybe another Austin trip is in my near future?
