Off to The Princeton Club to talk about pitching our blog

Where I'm speaking on Monday

I'm off to The Princeton Club (who knew cupcake blogging could lead to such awesomeness?) to speak at the Food Marketing & Publicity Summit 2008 on a panel about pitching food bloggers. I'll be alongside Sloane Miller of Allergic Girl, Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen, and Megan Steintrager, Editor of Epicurious's blog Epi Log.

Here's the official description: (click through to see the day's full schedule)

Going Viral Online: Pitching Food Bloggers

Food blogging makes up one of the most fertile subjects in the blogosphere, with hundreds of bloggers helping to set tastes, stir controversy, skyrocket new products to fame and trash others. Learn from some of the best-known and most prolific bloggers how they want to work with marketing and PR professionals and how they advise you respond to opinions from bloggers or blog readers that you believe are unfair.

I have a PowerPoint presentation and everything (I have never in my life used a PowerPoint presentation, so wish me luck).

I'll do my best to summarize the points made on the panel, but in a nutshell, we want pitches about, well, cupcakes (yes, sometimes we're pitched about other topics). Think about what you're sending - make it as easy on us as possible. Don't just say, "Here's the link to my website's bakery," - a website that may or may not have your city, hours, and other relevant information listed. Give us photos, send us all we may need to know to post about your bakery. The easier you make it on us, the more likely we will be able to post. Please also know that we cannot post or link to everything cupcake-related; that's our job as editors of this blog to determine. If you don't hear back from us within 2 weeks, feel free to follow up. More points later after the panel. I'll leave you in my fellow bloggers' capable hands.
