This weekend's cupcake events: Austin, Wayzata, MN, and Philadelphia

There are 3 cupcake events going on this weekend:

Soft opening of Hey Cupcake! storefront, Austin, Texas, November 15

at 5530 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas

Today is the opening of the storefront of former Airstream trailer-only cupcake bakery Hey Cupcake! in Austin. Click here to see a shot of the interior. According to The Barbed Wire Report:

They will feature an on-site bakery, music venue, a lighted cupcake on the roof, and an interior airstream trailer from which the cupcakes are served.

And The Allandale Reporter has more info - the official grand opening will be on December 15th, National Cupcake Day (though there seems to be some confusion about which cupcake day is "the" National Cupcake Day). See Austinist for previous coverage.

If any of our Austin readers go to the opening, please send us some photos!

And finally I understand what Open Source Cupcakes is! It's been a bit of a mystery even though I follow them on Twitter. All is revealed in this interview at uwishunu Philly.

How did you decide to start a cupcake corporation?

Dana:
Hmmm cupcake corporation seems a little grand… but I’ll go with it. Working out of Indy Hall, there is an amazing “you can do it” type atmosphere. I was making cupcakes every Thursday to bring into the office, and before long I had my co workers hooked. Their support helped put me in a positive attitude to start seriously thinking about making something bigger happen. I also had Katie with me every step, we lean on each other and keep each from getting discouraged. It’s a beautiful relationship.

Katie: We decided over Thai… One night over Drunken Noodles, Dana said to me, “Katie, is this really what you want to do?” I said, “Yes, absolutely.” She responded, “So let’s do it then.” Everything just picked up from there. She totally pushes me in the right direction. I admire her for that.

We wanted a place where other cupcake lovers could share their passion with us! A website seemed like the first logical step.
