From Scene Blog of The Birmingham News comes word of performance art, featuring cupcakes at Space One Eleven:
The F Words. Works by Karen Graffeo, Kim Riegel, Sonja Rieger and Carolyn Sherer, with additional works by Collin Williams, Spencer Shoults and David Young. Space One Eleven. Through Dec. 12.
The title of this show is a provocative, if incomplete, reference to "four fabulous females" -- artists who have works displayed at Space One Eleven...
"Cupcakes" is precisely that -- cupcakes. In a series of double glass frames, Spencer Shoults crams tiers of miniature white cupcakes topped with frosting and colorful sprinkles and, to varying degrees, floods them with liquid that drips through plastic hoses from inverted glass jugs mounted over the frames. There is a certain mordant humor in these assemblies. Revulsion and curiosity are amusingly combined in this vision of sweet stickiness.
